Re: Line 6 vs Digitech

I have a Digitech multi-effects and I don't even use it anymore. It was great for when I first got it but then I just got sick of it. I haven't tried the GNX3 so I can't say anything good or bad about it, but I think it would be a better investment to get the POD.

Re: Line 6 vs Digitech

I give Digitech a chance evertime they release a new generation of stuff and I always hate it. It is just unbelievably fake/plastic/lame sounding.

I recently picked up a Line6 GuitarPort which uses models from the PodXt/Vetta and I'm really impressed. They are no replacement for the real thing, etc. etc., blah blah, but for getting a ton of usable sounds in an easy package, it is pretty amazing. The GuitarPort is only $100, too!

You're right. While there is no replacement for the real thing, I think Line 6 comes closer to sounding like the real thing than Digitech. BTW, the GuitarPort...is that the one you can hook directly to your PC to record with? Sorry to go off topic. :)

Re: Line 6 vs Digitech

Depends. IMO the Amp simulators are better on the PODs, but the "true effects" are better on the Digitech stuff ;)

Re: Line 6 vs Digitech

I am interested in opinions on this as I am unsure about getting a PodXT or a Pandora (or maybe something else?). Basically I want to be able to record stuff and put in on my pc (sound clips or directly onto a CD etc). So what is best? - I have heard that the Pandora is good, but does not have any USB connections and that the POD has them. I am not really interested in gigging with either of them as I have my own rig sorted out but would relly be interested in your views.

BTW - I will be at the guitar show in Wembley in a couple of weeks time - so if any of you guys are coming let me know and see if we can arrange a meeting.

Yeah, the GP rocks. It powers itself off of USB, runs at 24bit/48k, has a built in headphone amp, AND stereo analog outputs(RCA). It could not be simpler to record with. About as plug-n-play as it gets. So far I've been using it with my laptop as a practice amp when I'm transcribing, and to through down little sound clips here and there just for scratch tracking.

It doesn't have everthing the POD has, but for me it has enough: 16 amps, 16 cabs, few types of delay, few types of reverb, a good collection of stompbox models(Tubescreamer, RAT, Pi, etc.), and a cool interface. It even has a wah knob for guys who like to use a wah as an always-on filter. On top of that, you can use the online stuff for a zillion patches and there are lessons/tabs/licks at GuitarPort online(subscription based). It's cool! :D

Sounds cool - anyone said that you would make a good salesman  :32:

Can you record directly to the CD player and what sort of software does it have - easy or bl**dy difficult to understand.

Re: Line 6 vs Digitech

I use the Digitech GNX3. I don't have any Line 6 stuff at all, so I wouldn't know. Digitech gets my vote! Had it not been for them, I would not have the clips that I posted.

Re: Line 6 vs Digitech

I don't think the digitech comes even close to matching the POD. In terms of amp modelers, I'd consider either the XT (what I have) or the Vox Tonelab...

I've done a bit of sales in my day. ;)

I'm not aware of any features for CD burning within the GP software itself, but you can record into any audio app you want to a burn from there. I think the interface is incredibly simple. Basically just a virtual amp with pedals. Click on em' and tweak the knobs....

Re: Line 6 vs Digitech

I used to have a Digitech GNX1, but i didn't really care for it that much. It had some good effects on there, but in live situations i found it to be a hassle. Thats why i went back to my single stomp boxes..i think they sound better anyway...well some do. They are eaiser to use. Where as the GNX1 was a little complicated at times...you had to spend alot of time with it...just to get the right settings. Maybe i just needed something idiot proof! I found the digitech to be lacking. If i were you i would go with the Line 6.

I want to go to that, though is in middle of exams and i dont know if my other guitaring mates would want to go.

Btw with these comparisons, how do either Line6 or Digitech compete with Tech21nyc as far as distortions? The TRI-AC has caught my eye.

Re: Line 6 vs Digitech

I am a hardcore digitech man myself however I hate digitech comp. so I keep a dynacomp in line. I have learned over the years that only your ears can find the "perfect" tone makers for your needs. Go play them and let your tone desire answer your questions.

We can all post our views and noone agree and in the end yer still scratching yer head.

Re: Line 6 vs Digitech

From my point of view both Line 6 and Digitech have problems to make realy hard power distortion like Tech21nyc Tri-AC, or BOSS Mega Distortion or Rocktron Piranya and some hibrid Tube+Digital stompboxes (like Rocktron). Also don't forget to try software distortion.

Re: Line 6 vs Digitech

The wife bought me a Digitech box for Christmas a few years ago....I returned it & bought a Digitech 2112 which I upgraded to 2120. Tons of effects in that box, but I really don't use it.

As for the POD vs GNX3....I'd get a SansAmp PSA-1 which friggin ROCKS!!! And you won't need any effects.

Re: Line 6 vs Digitech

I've owned the Pod 2.0, and the Digitech RP-300 & RP-100. The Pod had a ton of sounds, nearly all of which were very good to excellent. The Digitechs had a ton of sounds, nearly all of which were very poor to useless. Both RPs were noisy as f*ck as well. I'd imagine the GNX series HAS to be better, but honestly, the effects in my Digitech RP-6 (circa 1997) sounded every bit as good as the effects in the 100 & 300.
