Line6 POD Pro rackmount

anybody use this? anybody's opinion on it?

i was also wondering if running it from a tube poweramp would make it sound any different/better than SS?

other preamps i were considering were any marshall/mesa

I used to run one in a rack setup. It sounded alright, but to really make it sound pleasing to me in a live situation when running it through a power amp and cabinet, it needed a few more bells and whistles (BBE maximizer, rackmount graphic EQ). If you browse the Line 6 boards, you'll notice that most of the guys that use them live have a rack full of EQ equipment to, as they say, "dial out the fizz". In the end I just wasn't all that happy with my tones and sold the rack to buy a Mesa Rectoverb head .

Of course that's just how I felt about it. If you can, give one a try, you might love it. Plenty of people do!

AFAIK, they are the same as the bean version, but with more connectivity, so if you have tried one of them you know what to expect...

I get flamed every time I say this, but I stand by it. Once you start running a processor system, be it Digitech or Tech 21 or Line 6 or Art or whatever, it no longer makes any difference whether your power amp stage is Solid State or tube. I've run Digitech systems through tube amps, SS amps, tube PAs and SS PAs. There isn't really a discernable difference in tone, all other things being equal. I think the Line 6 rackmount POD sounds really good, better in fact, than my Digitech stuff, but I'm comfy enough with what I'm using that I'll probably stay with it.

PODs are more meant to go straight to the PA, not through a power amp (it colors the sound too much). Get a keyboard amp onstage for a monitor, or better yet, in-ear monitors.
