Line6 Spider 3

Ok I bought this spider 3 30watt with a clestion 12in. speaker and what not. Its a pretty sick. Only issue is my washburn has the zakk wylde active pickups in it. Ive noticed it creates way too much distortion. Does anyone have one of these and can tell me how to fix this? All my other guitars sound awesome coming out of it.

Re: Line6 Spider 3

uhhh...i dont know but the spider 3 does not receive much "love" from its owners...AFAIK, active pickups don't sound good in solid state amps.

Oh my esp I just got it back and it has a seyomur ahb-1 in it and it sounds awesome. The washburn doesnt. It sounds good on other amps thats why I was questioning this. I may sell the darn thing and buy a marshall.

Creates too much distortion?
Don't put the gain on stupidly high levels.
For rhythm guitar, if you need to set the gain any higher than about 5 (I'd say 4 with the active pickups)on ANY of the channels, something is wrong.

I only have my guitar volume at 1/4 of the way up. It has no tone knob and the amp is at 3 on insane. The esp is all the way up and it comes in nice. My issues is way too much feedback with the distortion. Could be just the guitar and amp in general as a combo. I will figure it out. May just buy a marshall mg250dfx or something along those lines. It works great with both my axes cause its what my friend uses.

Re: Line6 Spider 3

i have owned a spider II half stack and ill tell you...unless you like a bunch of different effects all in one i would not recommend it. ive not played the spider III but im sure its similar. marshall, mesa boogie and even some models of peavey are always a winner. although ive played a marshall mg series and i thought it didnt sound very good to me. maybe a small 15w practice amp is not that bad. i hope that helps you out.

Totally. What would you recommend for a marshall than? I live with my parents but not for long. Got my own place lined up with my gf. Its a house good neighborhood and I can build a dirtbike track in the backyard. I need something powerful but also something that wont break the bank.

Re: Line6 Spider 3

More along the lines of practice maybe a combo. Give some good brands and types of thos two and Ill lokk them up. Dont need to break the bank though. On top of those two guitars I have a house payment starting soon.

Re: Line6 Spider 3

i own a peavey valve king. it pretty good. you have to run the boost all the time to get heavy distortion but its a versatile amp. peavey jsx series is a really good amp, very versatile. mesa boogie any sorta rectifier will be good. marshall jcm800 is a very good one. marshall jvm is pretty good, marshall DSL, certain crate models arent bad, you really have to play them to find out which one is good. orange is a good brand but pricey. hope thats not a bad start.

Nope thanks. Ill do my research and see who has what and take my washburn down and try them. Our sam ash and guitar center out here lets us do that so it would be smart.

Re: Line6 Spider 3

i recommend it. dont let the people at guitar center push you into something you dont want. dont be afraid to crank it either. you gotta test all the dynamics of the amp. im not a fan of guitar center but they have a good selection though.
