Lipstick Tube questionsLipstick Tube Lipstick Tube

Hi everyone!

Two questions:

First, can I install the lipstick pickups in a strat pickguard without modifying the pickguard routes?

Second, will there be a problem if the make direct contact with a aluminium pickguard (like on some 50's Fender Strats) as the entire pickguard is grounded?

Thanks!

1. Yes, at least with the Seymour Duncan Lipstick.
2. Not sure, as I used my Lipstick with a plastic guard.

Thanks for the quick reply! And sorry about the thread-title "copy and paste accident"...

Thing is that I want to use an aluminium pickguard because it offers great shielding plus that I like how it looks.

As for question #2: No. Not if both are grounded and there are no static electricity issues.

Lew,
I'm considering using an aluminum guard also.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by grounding the guard, other than just with the grounded pots??

No I'm just talking about grounding the pots but they make direct contact with the guard.

So with good wiring things will work out? Is that it?

I've never used lip stick pups, however if they are like the tele neck pup covers (ie must be grounded), then it shouldn't be a problem.

So, does anyone know if the SD Lipstick tubes have grounded covers?

you could PM Evan, he coould tell you, but I'm 99% sure that they are a real metallic shell. Now I have heard of a chromed type of plastic as well, I don't know what the electrical characteristics of that would be ... PM Evan.

Also, make sure you get the Lipsticks that are a strat retrofit, NOT the Dano versions. The mounting for these is very different, and I beleive they are also different in size.

BTW, the stock Dano Lipsticks do not have a grounded cover (at least the ones in my little bro's U3 don't.
