Her Little Mojo Minion
I'm entertaining the idea of ditching all or most of my tube PAs, my Roland JC-50, and just rolling with my Valvestate 8100 head, my two pieces of rack gear (JMP-1 and GSP-1101), and one nice (small) tube head. Using my Carvin legacy 2 x 12" as my main cab.
This head would need to have the following to work with my proposed uses (by itself, with pedals, and as a power amp for the rack gear):
* rather small (it will probably have "mini" in the name)
* power about 20-50 watts (it's ok if it switches down to lower but don't need more than 50 watts)
* around $500-600 max new (so boutique ones are out)
* effects loop
* (this is probably the kicker): self-biasing, or external trim pot and external probe points - I don't want to have to take it somewhere for tube changes, and not too crazy about opening amps up.
* decent cleans, vintage marshall on the gain side about as high as I'd need to go. If it's onboard gain side isn't that great, I'm not opposed to using pedals to get what I like.
I'm thinking the Peavey Classic 20 mini fits the bill, aside from the external bias pot matter. Maybe someone here has one and can let me know if it's easy to access?
Hate to say it but once again with the infinium thing, the Bugera G20 Infinium actually appears to have everything I'd need. Plus it can do EL34s, a huge plus in my book. Just have to get past the slave labor/idea-stealing/reliability matters. What it is a copy of, maybe I could look to that version if that one is self-biasing.
