List of small heads with these features...

Her Little Mojo Minion
I'm entertaining the idea of ditching all or most of my tube PAs, my Roland JC-50, and just rolling with my Valvestate 8100 head, my two pieces of rack gear (JMP-1 and GSP-1101), and one nice (small) tube head. Using my Carvin legacy 2 x 12" as my main cab.

This head would need to have the following to work with my proposed uses (by itself, with pedals, and as a power amp for the rack gear):

* rather small (it will probably have "mini" in the name)
* power about 20-50 watts (it's ok if it switches down to lower but don't need more than 50 watts)
* around $500-600 max new (so boutique ones are out)
* effects loop
* (this is probably the kicker): self-biasing, or external trim pot and external probe points - I don't want to have to take it somewhere for tube changes, and not too crazy about opening amps up.
* decent cleans, vintage marshall on the gain side about as high as I'd need to go. If it's onboard gain side isn't that great, I'm not opposed to using pedals to get what I like.

I'm thinking the Peavey Classic 20 mini fits the bill, aside from the external bias pot matter. Maybe someone here has one and can let me know if it's easy to access?

Hate to say it but once again with the infinium thing, the Bugera G20 Infinium actually appears to have everything I'd need. Plus it can do EL34s, a huge plus in my book. Just have to get past the slave labor/idea-stealing/reliability matters. What it is a copy of, maybe I could look to that version if that one is self-biasing.

Check into a Randall RM20. It's got a slot for a modular pre amp, so you can select the one that gives the base tone you like best, from super clean to super over-driven, and everything in between. It also has the external bias test points.

Are you looking to use this mostly as it's own amp, or to run your rack pieces through?

Do you still have a power amp? Maybe you should get a 20 - 50W Marshall or Mesa tube power amp

It'd be cool to use it as both - by itself for cleans and easy go-to marshall type tones, or if I want to run my rack gear I'd use into the effects loop.

I'm hesitant to get another rack power amp because they're so limited in what they do, often pretty heavy, if it's used I'd probably have to get it into a shop at some point (which I always dread) and I'd need to get a larger rack case, sell my 2-space one, etc. Plus I see something like Quilter's 200 watt SS head/power amp as a more versatile, portable, and long-lasting power amp option if I went that route.

My carvin power amp is slated to sell via ebay once the auction is over in a few days. It's too big, too heavy, and one channel cuts out while in stereo. So I'm cutting my losses while it still works well (in mono mode).

In the meantime (and perhaps the longer term), I've been running my rack stuff into the front of one of my single-ended 6L6 PAs and it sounds really good actually - quiet, tubey. And if the power tube ever dies I can just pop in a new one.

VHT Special 12/20 seems to be self-biasing, while the Special 44 has external bias test jacks and "easily accessible" bias adjustment pot.

egnator tweaker - either the 15 or 40 might float your boat depending on number of channels you want
