Lite Ash Telecaster?

Hey, all!
Been after a Tele for some time, and an ad for a used Lite Ash Tele just came up, for the price of a new Standard.
Are they any good? Looks nice with the old-school looks and Duncan pups.

Korean license built Tele. Good stock pickups but know going in that most of the hardware is not standard size so if you ever want/need to change it it will require mods.

Also , those pretty Birdseye maple necks are bad about warping.

They're fantastic.

When I was in the market for a tele, I walked into this mom and pop place out of town to see if I could find a deal. They had some strats and epi's but nothing that really wowed me. As I was leaving I saw a tele headstock poking up from behind a 4×12 cab. I plugged it in and it was perfect. The owner forgot he had it so I got the guitar and a hardshell case for about $400.

It may just be mine, but it is heavy for a tele. The a2p's are nice but I may swap them eventually.

Hmm... Better pass on that then. I want a Tele to do some mods on and make it my own, and I don't really want to carve or drill in it.

Re: Lite Ash Telecaster?

My birdseye-necked guitars are the most stable I have. Although to be fair they're MusicMen and not cheaper Fenders; the quality of the wood has a lot to do with it. Better great birdseye maple than bad 'normal' maple.

...build your own maybe? What price range are you looking at? The Highway One teles are MIA and can be modded nicely. Also, some of the MIM make for nice guitars with a little TLC.

Yeah, building my own has been an idea too, but necks and bodies don't come cheap here in Sweden. Another idea is getting a MIM Standard and modding it a bit. Seeing as they're vintage spec when it comes to bridge mounting and 21 frets, they seem like a good starting point. The used market in Sweden is kind of anemic, so most used stuff are barely cheaper than new.

LAT? Not for me. I prefer the neck shape and ease of modification of the MIM Standard. I prefer the Baja model even more. Bottom line, I put my money into AVRI models or Squier VM series.

Re: Lite Ash Telecaster?

I LOVED the one I had. If I hadn't lusted after an M13 so bad I'd still have it. As far as mods go, I didn't feel the need to mod anything. The bridge and pickups were great!
