Little '59 magnets?

Re: Little '59 magnets?

Ceramic. Great pickup. Best of the 'Lil series, in my opinion.

Re: Little '59 magnets?

Rats. I wonder if a Dimarzio Pro Track wouldn't be a better choice, then, since the rails would eliminate string alignment issues... any thoughts?

Re: Little '59 magnets?

There's nothing wrong with ceramic being used. It's a stronger magnet and better suited for those style pickups. Even the rails use ceramic, including the Pro Track. Alnico grade just wouldn't have enough strength at the necessary size to fit in those.

Just so ya know, from my experience, the Little '59 sounds the closest to it's big brother ('59 Model) out of all of the 'Lil humbuckers.

I have a pro track in the neck of one of my strats and like it alot. Great for bluesy stuff. I personally like the rail configuration better than 12 little screws. Cool rails would be another option if you want to stay with Duncan, but I believe that the cool rails are a little hotter than the pro track.

Re: Little '59 magnets?

Well, I'm looking more for a fatter replacement for my single coil at the bridge, like a classic rock humbucker, rather than a blues-oriented pickup. Think "Limelight," by Rush... recorded on a strat with a bridge humbucker. Or "Cliffs of Dover" by Eric Johnson, which was actually recorded on an ES-335.

Re: Little '59 magnets?

The Little '59 is Classic Rock and then some. I had one in my Strat for a long time before I finally broke down and got the Texas Specials that I wanted to for years. I'd get another one if I had another Strat for it.

Re: Little '59 magnets?

Lil 59's are great! Dont let the ceramic mag fool you, its a very nice warm pickup. i had it in the neck of a strat several years back.

Re: Little '59 magnets?

Sounds like the little 59 has some fans, then. I must say I do like the looks of the poles better than the rails. And the sound clips are very nice. I do wish they'd stuck to a regular single-curve cylindrical shape, though.

If you're interested in some more clips, search the Tips and Clips Section for threads started by me. I posted some a while back.

The li'l Screamin' Demon has a pretty good sound, too. Which would you guys recommend for an alder Strat with a maple fretboard?

Little '59. Others may have a different opinion on that though. ;)

Re: Little '59 magnets?

Hi ErikH. Would you mind pointing out the sound clips you're talking about? I find the Lil' 59 in my bridge to be a little thin. I've had to turn the bass up to 9 just to get the body I'm listening for. Any tips?

Re: Little '59 magnets?

Chaox, did you set the pole screws? you get the extra push with the screw on the g,d and a string set higher!

Here's the thread with the links to them.

Double check the wiring and make sure it's done properly.
Get it up towards the strings.
I never had to adjust the polepieced with it in my Strat but it doesn't hurt to try that as suggested.
Also, your amp/speakers/enclosure will have a big impact on just how much body you're wanting.

Re: Little '59 magnets?

the dimarzio chopper is the best option in my opinion.

Thanks but those links don't work. Unfortunately, I'm not so crash hot with the technical stuff so I had the pickup installed at my local guitar store. I might take it back in and see if they'll help me out with the tips you've suggested.

They should work now.

Good luck at the shop. I hope you get it situated.

Re: Little '59 magnets?

Clips sound great. I don't think my tone's too far off actually. I might try adjusting the pole pieces on my own. Thanks for the help.
