Little Help? (amp + water = Problem)

My Cat Just somehow managed to Knock over a vase that was on the table. The water in the vase spilled and a SMALL amount got onto the front of my vibro-champ. Mainly on the Grill cloth, and the Very bottom edge of the speaker.

But, I decided to Pull the chassis and check Just to be safe. And there was litterally a DROP of water inside the chassis ,I searched my ass off for more, but found none. And that little drop managed to get in only because the on/off switch is held in place with One screw, instead of two, so theres an open screw hole. So there was ONE drop inside the amp.

So I'm a tad paranoid there might be a little more that I can't see somewhere (although I'm almost possitive there isn't). So I'm planning on letting it set out over night, Chassis out of the cab, to Air out just to be 100% safe....If I do that, even if there was a little tiny amount of water some place else, as long as it evaporates then It should be fine right? (I know obviously If I turn it on/run current through the circut while something is wet that could create a problem, which is why I wanna let it air out over nite)

And second question. The Speaker cone itself didn't get wet at all. But the Little Pressed paper Rim around the edge did.....So I'm thinking The best thing for that would be to Just reattach it to the amp, and let it dry out In the cab, basically useing its own mounting screws as a clamp. Is that good? Or does it even matter? (its just the pressed paper edge thingy)

Help/advice would be Greatly appreciated guys, thanks in advance!

does not sound like the water that made inside the amp will cause any issues.. should not anyways as long as it dries before you fire it up..

I'm not sure about the speaker....

Are you refering to the speaker surround that got wet? If so, I would definitely let it dry completely before playing it, it might tear when wet. Also, if the surround did get wet, check on it in a cpl wks cuz paper speaker material can get brittle after it gets wet and dries, although you'll probly be fine. I'd say letting the amp dry outside its chassis overnight would be a wise idea. If as little water got on the amp as you say, you should be fine in a honesty.

Yeah it was litterally a drop of water. And it landed on the bare metal of the chassis, didn't get on any components at all.

I don't Think its the speaker surround. The part that got wet is the "gasket" (I thinkthats what its called anyways). The little pressed paper portion thats attached to the metal speaker basket, at the area where the screws attach it to the baffle.

The Red part is the part that got wet (with the darker red/maroon being the actual portion thats wet). The dark Grey part is what I THINK the surrond is, with the Lighter grey being the Cone, and the black portion being the dust cap.

The actual speaker itself wasn't wet. There was a few splatters of water on the cone (none on the Surround, or "dark grey part" ala the picture), and I managed to wipe those off with a towel before they'de soaked in at all. So I'm fairly sure there was no soaked in water on anything other than the Gasket/pressed paper rim thing.

Well after letting everything set/air out/dry over night. I reassembled everything today, put the chassis back in, etc... I did give everything a further inspection before putting anything back in, just to make sure the speaker gasket was dry, and to make sure there wasn't any wetness at all inside the chassis. Everything seemed dry.

Fired the amp up, and waited a couple minutes before plugging anything in, just to Make sure a short wouldn't appear (all the while ready to pull the plug if anything bad happened). And nothing strange happened. So I plugged in, and played for a few minutes, at various volumes. And everything appears to be totally fine!

So I guess I can let the cat continue to live, haha. Thank you Whofan, and Mediumpimpin for the advice and stuff, It certainly helped me to feel a little less worryed about the whole thing.

Good to hear. I know about that cat thing, mine knocks over any glass she can get to, so I make sure I don't leave any glasses near moisture sensitive items.

I've had a whole pint of lager knocked into my amp once at a gig. it just carried on working without so much as a splutter. Good old Marshall.

If you have a cat and an amp, an amp cover is a must. You are lucky (if the cat is male) that he didn't spray it.
