little wing

Re: little wing

haha your thinking about it huh? just do it! its a good one to know, and you can wow a lot of people with it, whether they are guitar players or not. just one thing.... try to make it yours a little bit, especially the solo. it just makes it that much cooler. anyways, your gona use your thumb alot on the low E string for the chords. its a little trick to get used to, but its all part of the Hendrix style. id say the hardest thing i had to learn for that song was playing the low E with my thumb while dabbling around on the chords with the rest of my fingers..... you will know what i am talking about when u get to playing it. anyways, its a fun song and well worth your time.

Re: little wing

singlecoils, neck or neck/middle, and roll down your volume a wee bit if it's too bright ;)

good luck, its a nice challenge

and i slap the e string at the start heh - bit of a bassist in all of us :32:

Re: little wing

By far and away my favorite Strat song. SRV's version simply tames the lion.

Good luck with it - she is a fun song to learn and once you've gotten some parts of her "down", you will feel like a king!!

Keep it slow so it doesn't get herky-jerky and also so it doesn't start to sound country.

If you haven't tried it yet go to www.seventhstring.com and download "Transcribe". It isa great piece of software and there is a full 30 day trial version.

I did this a while back to show how versatile an LP was. It is a Jazzn/CCb middle position with the PG wiring mod on. Thanks to Scott_F for keeping it up on his site after all this time. have fun it is a beautiful song.

Tommorrow im thinking about trying to learn it when i get home from school, any tips on playing it?

We had to learn that one earlier this quarter for school. We also had to learn SRV's version for mid-terms. I would suggest learning Jimi's first. Also, I know it is too late, as you said you have made some progress. But, if you are interested in learning it note-for-note, dont worry about playing notes just yet. Focus on the rhythm first. By that I mean learn the groove of the notes. When they come in, and how long they last. "Jam" along with the song while palm-muting and focus on right hand technique. This will make inserting those obscure notes at the right moments a great deal easier. Also, the song is really just inner voice movement within chord shapes. So, if you bar the chords as you play the progression, it makes nailing the melody easier. Another good point is to learn it measure by measure. Once you MASTER the first measure, learn the second. Once you MASTER the second, put the first to together and master them together BEFORE going to the third. Lather, Rinse, Repeat......

Good Luck, and Have Fun with it

Re: little wing

a whole lotta reverb, for one :)

sounds thicker than a SC... p90 or a humbucker?

Re: little wing

Didn't you know, tone is in the reverb!

Thanks, I used a custom built Tele on that, it has a set of Rio Grande pickups in it. A Vintage Tallboy neck and Muy Grande bridge. The first part of the clip is the neck pickup, switched to the bridge at the solo for the rest of the clip.

Oops, forgot to add, these are single coils, not the humbuckers. Rio sells this as the Big Bottom for Tele set.
