Live Wire Metal Help Needed!

Im installing a live wire metal humbucker into my super strat shaped hum-sing-sing 5-way switch Jackson JSX 94 Limited Edition. Im keeping the two stock SCs so I know I don't use the pots.

I've never installed a pickup before, but have instructions of which wires to solder on/off. Could I use a 20w soldering iron for this job as getting a 15-18w one would require me buying it of the internet? What other stuff apart from a soldering iron will I need to buy to install the pickup considering I currently have no equipment for it?

I have space for the two batteries in the guitar 100% sure.

What are all the stuff in the two little bags that came with my pickup used for?
One bag has 2 springs, 2 long thin screws, 3 round bits of metal with a shape stamped out the middle, a resistor or something (it's small with a red, blue, yellow and then gold band around it)
Second bag has 3 round hooped washer type things, 3 of those things you use wrenches to tighten and then another electrical circuit thing which is yellow and says "150 [upside down triangle], .1/5, 250v, 89 15" on it

If anyone could walk me through the installation I would be really grateful, and any other advice will be appreciated. Thanks :bigthumb:

Liam, Welcome to the forum man!

Alright the problem with mixing Actives and passives is that the Active has to have its own tone circuit. Ir will have to use the pots provided. If you keep the regular pots it will load the pup and you will not get the performance from it.

If I remember correctly the guitar you have only has 2 knobs. If this is the case and you don't want to drill, or buy two more active pups your only options are to (A) Have two volumes one for N and M and one for the Bridge, Or (B) have no controls for the singles.

It sounds like you are describing your preamp (the thing with the resistor)

As far as you goodies go the springs and screws are what hold the pickup in the pickup ring. You'll put the screw through the pup ring and put the spring on the screw and then screw it into the pup baseplate.

The washers and nuts that you describe are for your new pot/s you will be installing.

Hopefully one of the other guys who are more familiar with actives will come in to help you.

And to answer your first question last, yes you can use your 20watt iron, you can use any iron you just HAVE to be careful so as not to melt the pot when you are soldering onto it.

I would not mind having no control over the two single coil stock pickups (middle/neck) at all.

I play hardcore metal a lot and that's what this guitar is predominately used for so I virtually never use the middle/neck.

I always thought live wires were fairly popular, so can anyone help?

Actually EMG's are more popular than the Live Wires. I'd say replace both your pots and wire the singles where they are on or off with the switch.
