live wire pickups

Re: live wire pickups

these are seymour duncans attempt for actives, 18v of power, they have the most distorted sound of all the actives i've ever heard, in the overdrive setting on an amp, you will get pure mayhem.
These are not very popular pups because they have far too much output, and the clean channal is still very distorted, i'd like too see them become popular one day.

Re: live wire pickups

Its been quite awhile since I played one an old band mate of mine had one in a Charvel flying V... If you need something to scald your eyebrows off and bludgeon your preamp till it screams uncle... its your pickup..

Re: live wire pickups

Its interesting . . . this makes me want to try LiveWires all the more. There are certain passive LCR "tone-shaping" circuits, (ala BL's Q filter), that I've wanted to try, that would kill too much output with passive pups, that might work great with LW's.

Also, we hear of the EMG "18-volt mod" all the time. I wonder how LW's would benefit from a 9-volt mod? :laugh2:

Re: live wire pickups

they would have less headroom and less output is my guess

yup thats exactly what happens, if they are to hairy at 18v drop it to 9 and it cleans up a little. They are so clean when i first plugged mine in i said to myself DAMN! i didnt wire it right then i hit the strings and out came sound. They are so quiet i didnt think they were even working.
