Loan Me a Dime

The Boz Scaggs version (with Duane Allman playing lead guitar?)

What guitar is being used here for the clean? It sounds like a tele neck to me, but I want to make sure.

Re: Loan Me a Dime

I'm sure that this isn't an es335.

A quick internet search for clips actually answered part of my question, that Duane was playing lead. Here's the solo (which sounds like a tele bridge to me). Couldn't find the beginning unfortunately, but I would really like to know what his set up might have been. I have had good luck with a '50s style tele neck into the clean channel of a mesa mark series amp.

Re: Loan Me a Dime

it was duane, not boz. duane was playing his '54 strat probably thru a twin with a fuzz face.

Re: Loan Me a Dime

Agree that it's not Boz on guitar but is Duane and during that time period he used a tele quite a bit.

Re: Loan Me a Dime

he had a tele with a strat neck but he got rid of it when he got the '54 strat. pretty sure the tele was gone by the time he played on boz skaggs in 68. pretty sure hey jude with picket was the tele though

I misunderstood the question. I thought you were asking what guitar Boz used. The clip definateley sounds like a Twin Reverb with some kind of distortion in front of it to me.

Re: Loan Me a Dime

These sessions, along with numerous others that year, lead directly to the formation of the ABB...basically a producer/exec said to go and find players for his own group, and the ABB is what came out.

Thanks for the answers.

I'll have to my father's strat sometime. Unfortunately, I don't have access to any fuzz, so I'll have to try to cope.

Re: Loan Me a Dime

there isnt a heck of alot of fuzz on that. duane liked to used almost dead batterys in his fuzzface. if you have a tube amp you should be able to get pretty close just turning the amp up so its overdriving

Yup. Duane lifted alot of his style from BB King, and his (BB) MO was, at that time, to turn a Twin Reverb up to somewhere between 8 and 10.
