Im looking at finally buying a second Les Paul style guitar (to put the term fairly loose)
Needs to be American, Japanese, Canadian, or similar country as a general rule.
Budget ranges, and is part of what i am still debating about. Defiantly under $2k, and thats a pretty much hard max.
Basically what i have been looking at are used PRS Cores and S2 series Singlecuts.
Used Core SC245:
Pros are that they seem spotless. Get parts, great QC, great tops, great necks. Locking tuners, beveled tops, 100% American, 1 piece necks... great guitars. Haven't played one though.
Cons are that prices range from $1500 to $2500 and they are harder to find in good colors due to the options.
Used S2 Singlecut:
Pros are the color choices leave that beautiful Scarlett Red finish as an option, the same QC and nearly the same everything as the Cores except some corners cut here and there (see cons), American made minus the pickups, pots, switch and Jack. Not to mention they can be found at $700 to $1000. Locking tuners as well.
The necks are actually supposedly made on the same line as the core. I played one a while back and the necks are great.
Cons are the the beveled top (not sure how i feels about it), Korean electronics, not as pretty tops, and other minor details.
Used Gibson Les Paul Studio
Pros: easy to find, price, is a full featured les paul
Cons: QC is spotty in recent year, plain tops on most of them, flame tops bring the guitar up in price a lot. Necks are a tad slow and slopy compared to PRS or CMG.
Chris Mitchell Guitars Ashlee:
Pros are you can have it made your way. Binding, pickups, controls, colors, woods, inlays...they have it all. 100% US made parts. Played 3 of them, all very nice. Fretwork seemed clean, stock pickups leave a bit to be desired. Nice tops. Made a few hours away from me. Nice carved tops. Very woody satin feeling neck. Nitro Finish all around.

Changes:
-Whole Lotta Humbucker set + Triple Shots
-2xVol 1xTone (like H170's configuration)
-Lip over Binding (Natural Maple "Binding")
-Ebony Headstock Veneer
-Bird inlay at 12th
Rough price: $1100
Cons are the necks are similar, but slightly lesser than a PRS from what i can remember. Lesser known.
All great guitars though! I dont think ill go wrong with any of these. What are yall's opinions? Penny for your thoughts?
