locking nut systems

Our Neighbor Totoro
my ibanez is tremolo equipped but i've never really learned much about using a tremolo because it throws the thing way out of tune. Is a locking nut system a good idea? i heard they're a pain to use but i'd love to be able to work with my tremolo to broaden my sound, and improve my versatility as a player, but i cant with a out-of-tune guitar. What should I do?

Re: locking nut systems

Does your bridge have fine tuners on it? Because without them, you can't really use a locking nut....

Re: locking nut systems

Locking nuts are really just used along with floyds and other locking trems. If you have a non locking tem I would suggest some locking tuners like some sperzels or schallers and a good setup.

Re: locking nut systems

Yeah, a set of locking tuners and a graphite nut can go a long way towards solving tuning problems with non-locking bridges. As others have mentioned, a locking nut won't do you much good unless you have a bridge with fine tuners and locking saddles.
