Locking Tuners Without Drilling holes?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows of a brand of locking tuner heads that will work for my Mayer Stratocaster that won't require drilling any holes? This guitar has the Vintage tuner heads with the slot at the top.
The only ones I saw were Planet Waves, but I don't like the plastic on the locking cap.

Re: Locking Tuners Without Drilling holes?

gotoh do a staggered height magnum lock tuner that directly retrofits vintage fender tuners.

Re: Locking Tuners Without Drilling holes?

There is also a set of locking tuners labled Fender/Schaller that I put on my American Standard when I had it. They are a direct fit with no drilling and the same footprint, I really liked them. There were 3 finishes, chrome, satin and black.

Thanks guys, I will definitely check those out.

The ones you are talking about Jeff, I believe came on the other Amer. Strat I have, and they are very easy to use. It's good to hear those are also an option without drilling.

Those will not fit without drilling on a guitar that came with vintage tuners.

They won't? The one's with the thumbscrew for locking? I had an 01' American Standard, and they droped right in.

You sure bro? I put them on a Mexi I had way back and they dropped in perfectly....

Re: Locking Tuners Without Drilling holes?

I just checked, and those do have a staggered tuning head which is different than the Vintage Tuners on this guitar. The tuner heads are narrower on the Amer. Standards.

This is an artist model, where it doesn't have the same hardware as American Standards.
I seriously don't know if that means it still wouldn't work, though.

Yes, if it came from the factory with the style tuners that are vintage (the post is slotted, these, http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Tuners/...s/Gotoh_Locking_Vintage_Oval_Knob_Tuners.html)
It will not work! The Schaller/fender locking tuner will require the headstock to be drilled!!!! It it came with the style tuners that have a hole (this style, http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Tuners/Guitar,_solid_peghead_tuners/Schaller_M-6_Guitar_Machines.html) to put the string through, it will probally work but, there are 2 different spacings for the mounting posts in the tuner.

Re: Locking Tuners Without Drilling holes?

Thanks for that info, Odie, and yes, it is exactly that style of tuner...the vintage w/the slot at the top instead of through the middle. Unless there are more than one style Vintage tuner?

The Fender/schallers will not work without drilling!!!!!

Hot Grits and Zerb hit the nail on the head. I knew they were made but, I just couldnt remember who made them and what they were called.

Re: Locking Tuners Without Drilling holes?

Cool, EZ74, good to hear they dropped right in, drilling holes is not something I want to attempt, lol
I believe those are the ones that Hot Grits mentioned.

Btw, thanks everyone for your help, it made the decision that much easier!
I just purchased the Gotohs, new off Ebay for $58 w/Priority shipping :)
