Long vs. short magnet

Hey there.

I recently bought two A4 mags. One 2,5 inch and one 2,36 inch. Is there any sonic difference between these sizes or what´s the pupose on two different sizes?

Can anybody tell me why my pickup dies, when i put on a cover, and works perfectly again when the cover is removed? Can´t see anything shorting out.

Have a nice weekend :-)

Well, maybe you have a loose connection or cold solder joint which is now being made through the cover or the baseplate.

Short magnets change the intensity of some of the frequencies, without affecting the overall voice. Its pretty hard to describe, not the least as I have a hard time understanding it myself.

I've not heard of short A4 before.....mainly short A5 and A2.

All Alnico magnets can be had in different lenghts.

It's a choice you make thinking about keeping p'up assembling production smooth; the 2.26" lenght is used in P-94-like products.

I don't think you can actually hear a difference A/B'ing the same p'up with a standard- and a short-lenght mag, given they come from the same alloy-melting batch.

The same with being polished or roughcast. The differences in sound are due to coming from different alloy-melting batches.

HTH,

There's something getting pinched where the two coils are wired together on the end; I've had this happen before. The magnet could be in too far and is pushing the wiring out a bit. Check that the tape hasn't gotten punctured or worn through.
