Lookin for new pickups

I recently purchaced a used Ibanez 320DX (basswood body & floyd rose knock off trem). I'm lookin to replace the pickups & would be open to some suggestions from my fellow players.

I play alot of metal (old-school & some new), some blues/jazz & so forth. I currently have a Pealy Gates bridge pick up available, but I don't think that's what i'm lookin for. Anyway, any input would be helpful. Thanks

I would also consider a trade for the Pealy Gates if anyone is interested.

Re: Lookin for new pickups

Based on what you are describing, I'd give the JB or the Custom a try. I haven't tried the Custom, but I hear that its got a nice buttery bottom, tight distortion, and works great in drop d tuning (for the newer metal). I've got a JB in one of my guitars and its pretty versatile, but I think compared to the Custom its got higher treble and its mids are spiked.

Re: Lookin for new pickups

Stick that Pearly Gates you have in the neck position and get yourself the Custom. This will give you a clear and fat neck tone and a tight, aggressive bridge pickup tone.

Re: Lookin for new pickups

Can a bridge pickup be used in the neck position? I've never heard of that before, course i'm still a noob at this.

Re: Lookin for new pickups

I have a PGb in the neck of my Carvin along with a Custom Custom and it works out great.

A PAF style bridge pickup will work fine with a high output bridge pickup.

Re: Lookin for new pickups

I agree with benjy.Having a duncan custom or distortion bridge and putting the pearly gates in the neck position will work fine indeed. You will gain some output more and also smooth a tiny little the highs from the neck version which might be too much in your case.
