A friend of mine has an HS-2, plus I've got plenty of various IBZUSA single coils. They're all slight HS-2 variants. So $25 for the IBZUSA's or $45 for his HS-2. I've got various covers for them, too.

HA! :laugh2: That's exactly what I told him. I said he should sell it for $35, and he said: "What if I don't want to sell it?" and then he decided for $45 shipped he would sell it. Anyways no harm. Have you tried the IBZUSA's? They're almost spot on HS-2's.

Wixom, I know they DID make HS-1's but for some reason they weren't popular as the HS-2 (Eric Johnson) and HS-3 (Yngwie) I guess since they weren't attributed to a person and their tone. That said I still never actually played one, or even remember seeing them at music stores for sale, whereas I always saw the HS-3 less so for the HS-2.

The old catalogs describe the HS-1 as the vintage strat sounding of the bunch, and the HS-2 as a little warmer. That's EXACTLY how I hear the IBZUSAC1 vs. the C2. My assumptions are that the C1 is the HS-1 and the C2 is the HS-2. The original IBZUSA's sound like C2's & HS-2's to me. With the introduction of their Virtual series, the HS-1 seems obsolete and unnecessary, but people still want the HS-2/3's probably because of the EJ/YJM connections you mentioned.

Sorry if this is off-topic but was there ever an Ibanez/Dimarzio C3 equivalent of an HS-3? I don't recall there being a C3 which is odd as the HS-3 is so popular and sounds great in many applications.
EDIT: I just read B2D's ad and he is selling a C3 but it's a bridge humbucker so I guess I answered my own question if there was ever a C3. The question still remains though if they ever did an equivalent of an HS-3?

The C3 that B2D is selling is just an OEM number for EB/MM. It's not an IBZUSAC3. There was indeed an IBZUSAC3 but it's not the HS-3. It's a true single coil pickup, and was generally used as a middle pickup. It's wound hotter than vintage but it's also taller, the same height as the stacks. So it's a decent, clean sounding single, but with no correlation to the EB/MM or the HS-3

Guys this is some good info on the HS1. Maybe the YJM is the HS1?
I've heard Malmsteen say that the YJM is a more of a vintage sounding pickup just like you said Frank. Or maybe the stopped making the HS1 becuase it was similar to the YJM? I think you can still order an HS-1 through a dealer.

Wixom actually the YJM IS the HS-3. And I'm pretty sure even after they came out with the YJM model Yngwie still uses the HS-3 in the bridge and the YJM in the neck. Apparantly the main difference is just the staggered magnets.
I have a YJM in the neck of a Squire Standard. Sounded good in the bridge as well where i had it prior to the Hot Rails in there now. Pretty big volume drop from a Hot Rails to a YJM lol.
