Looking for a Delay pedal

So far the two I keep looking at are the TC Electronics Nova Repeater OR the Eventide Timefactor.

I'm wondering if I should save up and wait to get a timefactor or just go ahead and get the repeater for cheap off ebay.

Also not that I don't like analogue delay I just prefer digital from what i've heard of different delays but other recommendations are welcome.

Re: Looking for a Delay pedal

The MXR Carbon Copy is a great delay & it's not $200+ bucks? I think new they run about $120, I'm selling a N.I.B. Carbon Copy on the post for $90 shipped right now. I have two, someone left it as collateral for a loan & never payed off his debt? I'm not suggesting it so you buy mine or anything, my point is it's just a great pedal and if you dig a bit you can pick one up for under $100?

Re: Looking for a Delay pedal

I have a ton of the Eventide stuff and it is all great but pricey. It really depends on what you want to do with it. If you are looking for a straightforward solid delay I would/did go with the MXR Carbon Copy. If you need midi, multiple patches, expression pedal control or any kind of exotic delay settings then the Eventide is the way to go. If you are dead set against analog you cant beat the BOSS DD3.

Agreed! If you want digital delay and you don't need tap tempo or multiple presets the DD-3 is the one. Rock solid Boss build quality and it sounds fantastic!

Re: Looking for a Delay pedal

Unless you need to change the modulation and such, I'd go with the flashback delay, cheaper then the timefactor and access to heaps of delay sound using toneprint software, the timefactor is a step up but in price as well.

Re: Looking for a Delay pedal

I didn't really like what i've heard from demos of the Carbon copy and the Flashback was a option but really wanted tap tempo options which led me to find the Nova repeater and Nova Delay pedals from TC. I want a delay that has clear repeats and one that I can grow into and hold onto for a long time which is why I wouldn't mind the big price tag upfront. If I could put a external tap tempo with the flashback then I might go that route.

The Strymon Timeline looks good as well and gets compared a lot to the timefactor.

Re: Looking for a Delay pedal

You might think about the H9 then. Tap, midi, exp pedal...

As far as digital delays go, these look good for what they do.

Re: Looking for a Delay pedal

Although I prefer Digital Delay myself too, I was checking out the Duncan Designed Vapor Trail pedal, it is analog but seems to be pretty cool!

Re: Looking for a Delay pedal

have you looked at the now discontinued SD Deja Vu delay? It does everything and more and it is super easy to use.

Re: Looking for a Delay pedal

Hey Securb how does the H9 sounds work with distorted guitar tones? High gain tones in particular?

Re: Looking for a Delay pedal

What are you looking for in a delay pedal? I've owned most delay pedals out there and settled on the timeline.

Re: Looking for a Delay pedal

The H9 works pretty good with a lot of gain. I really do not think there is anything it can not cover. That being said I got rid of mine because I want to go with something with knobs on it. The pigtronix echolution 2 deluxe is nice as well. I want to try a timeline but haven't been able to come across one yet.

Thats the thing I wasn't sure until I actually started to look at different types of delays and never really knew their were so many different types and variables to delay. I knew I wanted something with good sound quality and clean and clear repeats and for it to have tap tempo. I was looking at the Strymon Timeline, Eventide Timefactor, TC Nova repeater, and TC Flash back.

But once I saw the H9 I more inclined to get one of those over just a straight up delay unit. The H9 has not only delay but other modulation effects as well that I would use along with the delay anyway.

THIS -

Buying a delay is like buying a house or car. If you don't know what you need, you will end up buying way more than you want.

Tell us this first. Then we'll suggest one.

Have you ruled out the Korg SDD-3000? I had the rack unit back in the day, the pedal does sound just like it. Very clear and digital.

Re: Looking for a Delay pedal

I use a carbon copy and a boss DD7. Given you are not interested in analogue that eliminates the MXR, however you may be interested in the DD7 as it is a digital delay (with additional modulation, reverse and yes... Analogue modes), as well as tap tempo. It also has a basic loop function too which can be fun. Anyhow I cannot claim to have exhaustive knowledge of delays however you can do a lot worse than the boss.

Re: Looking for a Delay pedal

There is a "tap" tempo feature on the flashback. It's kind of weird though. If you press/hold the switch for 2 seconds it goes into audio tap mode. At which point you pick or strum the strings at the desired tempo. It can be a pain in the butt, and cuts your signal while you do it. But it's there.

Re: Looking for a Delay pedal

For very simple delay needs, I like both the Carbon Copy and the Aqua Puss. For complicated delay, I like the Alter Ego X4. All are affordable.
