Looking for a good sounding amp simulator/cabinet emulator

I currently have a digitech valve fx pre amp since 1996 that has a cab. emulator setting, in which I run a fender american strat and a keeley moddded ds-1 pedal into. Then out of the digitech straight into a p.a. mixing board which sounds "kinda" o.k. Since the digitech I have now is probably considered "old technoligy" these days, I'm wondering if there's anything out there better in the market that sounds more like a "amp" tone. The clean tone I have now is good for country, but the old and classic rock is kinda lacking. Tremendous help by getting my boss ds-1 modded,(the digitech distortions suck big time) and overall it doesn't sound too bad. It just not quite what i'm looking for without having to lug my amp around and tinkering with mic placements. Just whant to keep my gear setup simple for easior setup.

There is always a POD. Or maybe a real amp hooked up to a Hughes and Kettner Red Box?

I use a Vox ToneLab. If you are satisfied with the tone of the one you have, or if has a good EQ section, stick with it and tweak it a little. If someone really has a knowledge of the amps they want to simulate and of how to tweak an EQ unit well, my recommendation is to use and equalizer and your favorite distortion.

+1 for the Tonelab. To me it sounds the most natural.
