looking for a HSH standard 5 way wiring

Hi guys!
I've just been on a customizing rampage with my Ibanez RG570 and now the guitar is stripped of alsmost everything Ibanez put on it including a 1/4" thick filler before the 1/4" paint job that make it sound like an innocent baby's air release, all the tone sucking pots, the sub standard trem springs, stock pickups and god knows what else!!! Major heartaches while i was at it but now it sounds beautiful :) clear resonant woody sound out of it! i'm happppyyyy now!!!!
So its going to be a JB that will take on the bridge rambling job now as soon as i get it with the remaining stock pups which i hardly ever use...yep i'm a bridge bucker sucker! Anyway guys to get back to point i need your help. ArtieToo I hope you respond to the SOS! I needed a standard HSH diagram fot a 5 way swith (standard again) so that i can avoid going to the the luthiers here who are a little hard to trust for a perfect job. PLease guys, any help would be HUGELY appreciated here :):):)

Thanks a lot in advance :)

Warn regards

Thanks rinse_master for the quick reply. I've tried a few diagrams from the site when i had a Tone Zone and also later but there was always something missing. For instance the volume connection from pot to switch is in one of the two poles in the switch leaving the pickup connected to the other pole unable to sound. This seems to be on most of their diagrams so maybe its with a different switch. Also i'd tried this one before with the stock pickups and ended up getting only the middle pickup to sound.....

Heh - we posted at the same time. ;)

Anyway, use this pic as a reference:

Stew-Mac 5-way

The terminal on the far right, should go to the volume control.
The pups, to the other three.

Re: looking for a HSH standard 5 way wiring

Hey ArtieToo how are you doing man, so this might be the diagram...hmmm is the small capacitor on the switch the thing that connects volume to both poles? i have always noticed in these diagrams, the 2 poles are connecting with the wire for volume...

Re: looking for a HSH standard 5 way wiring

i mean the 2 poles AREN'T connecting with a wire for volume or output...

Re: looking for a HSH standard 5 way wiring

One of the things I've always disliked about those diagrams, is that they show the switch "spring". Thats not a cap. Its the spring that makes the switch "click". They show it for orientation purposes. I always thought it was an inductor, when I first started looking at these diagrams. :smack:

For "standard" 5-way wiring, you only need one side of the switch. There's no need to tie the two poles together. You would only do that if you were going to do "tapping" or "splitting", or somesuch.

Just use half the switch. Unfortunately, I'm at work, and can't post a custom diagram. But, you really shouldn't need one. Just be sure to add the tone control to that diagram.

Just look at any other simple diagram for the tone control connection.

Re: looking for a HSH standard 5 way wiring

hmm, maybe thats the problem, my switch is the one which has all the terminals on a side in a line, still without a clue for this switch...

Re: looking for a HSH standard 5 way wiring

Ok, then its not "standard" . . . its "Ibby-ish". :laugh2:

I can post a diagram, when I get home, but basically, you just have, (starting from either end), bridge hot, middle hot, neck hot, common.

Then don't use the other four . . . which continue on as, common 2, bridge 2, middle 2, neck 2. Those are the ones you'ld use to split or tap.

In other words, commons in the middle, with neck, middle , bridge going out towards the edge. (But opposites on either side.)

Re: looking for a HSH standard 5 way wiring

Okay!! A custom diagram for me! thanks ArtieToo for the much needed help, you saved the day again :) Just one more question though, should i be using a properly shielded specific wire for the other connections. Right now its a few pieces i got from an electricals shop (the other wires they deal with are cable tv and household connections!!!!) Should i try something from a radio warehouse? i dont have any of the original wires...

No problem, I don't know much about wiring, but I know where the schematics are, and if you can't find it, Artie and a few others will no doubt be able to sort it :)

Artie's the man! That stuff is so time consuming to explain, and he always takes the time to get it right. Lew

Right on :) Thanks Artie.

Re: looking for a HSH standard 5 way wiring

can anyone point me to a similar diagram that replaces the 5-way switch with a 5-way rotary switch?
