Looking for a Mellotron plugin

As the title says, I'm looking for a Mellotron plugin. I'm mostly considering GForce's M-Tron and IK Multimedia's SampleTron, but I'm open to other ideas.

What do you guys like? I'm running Logic Pro X, FWIW.

EDIT: I just noticed the IK virtual instruments are massively discounted right now. That might make this a really easy decision :laugh2:

Re: Looking for a Mellotron plugin

Best Mellotron samples are MTron. I have it and LOVE IT. However, you have to make sure that MTron 2 is supported on Mavericks/64bit AU for LPX. Original MTron will not work on a newer Mac.

Sample Tron is good, but MTron is the gold standard.

Re: Looking for a Mellotron plugin

M-tron is pretty amazing, and really fun to play with. I usually use a mellotron sample on almost everything I record too.

Re: Looking for a Mellotron plugin

I used MTron a LOT on my last album. MTron2 has even more tape banks available.

Oh, something worth noting -- MTron is an EXACT replica of a Mellotron, so 8 seconds of note time is all you get if you are playing long pads ... Requires creative use of echo and the attack/release sliders to cheat around that.

I grabbed SampleTron because of the huge price cut, but from what you guys are saying I may have to pick up MTron soon as well. I'll check out the trial and compare the two.

Re: Looking for a Mellotron plugin

I have M-Tron Pro and SampleTron. SampleTron has a couple banks that M-Tron doesn't, but it sounds like it's a 3rd generation cheap recording. M-Tron Pro is like having the actual instrument. I highly recommend getting the ChamberTron and Streetly Tapes with it.

Here's a couple short examples of what's possible with M-Tron Pro / what it sounds like.

Re: Looking for a Mellotron plugin

I was going to ask about budget plug-ins and/or samples of the Chamberlin and Optigan but, having just watched the G-Force videos, I can tell that anything else would be a false economy.
