Looking for a mini practice amp

I am your doctor of love!
I want a tie @$$ amp for the bedroom. The amp I always envision is something like a Roland Micro Cube. (I dig the red ones)

What I want is something that has:

  • clean & gain
  • three channel EQ
  • super simple fx with delay or reverb (swirly stuff bunnies and not really needed, but ok)
  • 15 watts or less, no speaker requirement


Besides the Micro Cube, what am I overlooking. I have considered a Fender Frontman 15g - which means I'd need to drag a pedal in there.

Yamaha THR. You would probably dig the 10X the most judging from your taste in music. I have the regular (beige) one and the X and have nothing but great things to say about them.

Be careful....I am as likely to play Blues, clean Jazz, or anything on this....

But THX makes a 10 eh?

Are you after a “proper” amp under 15watts, or would one that also runs on batteries like a Blackstar Fly be acceptable?
Do you mean you have a speaker you would use, or you don’t care what size speaker it has?

Something like a Hotone legacy tiny amp could be interesting, although I’m aware it doesn’t have two channels or reverb/ delay, so sorry if that’s useless!

Personally, I treated myself to a Boss Katana Mini, with 3 modes, 3-band eq, and 2-nob delay. I was going to get Blackstar Fly 3, but as it was my birthday I treated myself to the more expensive Boss. Not disappointed. Loud enough that I don’t turn it up full.

I have the Hotone Legacy Heart Attack and Purple Wind. I also own a Joyo Zombie. Those THR'S are in a whole different league, and should be since they cost twice as much used, but what a great grab and play anywhere amp. I get between 6-7 hours out of a set of batteries (Duracell never past 10 o'clock on the volume) if I want to go that route or we lose power. The sound quality and options on the THR's are great. I got my standard, beige THR about 5 years ago and just picked up the THR10X about a year ago. It's one of those things where you want to buy another one just to stick in the closet in case the zombies come and something happens to the other one....lol I see them used all the time for $200-$225.

I checked out the Yamaha - aesthetics aside; way more $$$$ than I care to spend on such a creature.

Proper amp. Battery op a bonus but this will always be plugged.

Don’t care what size speaker - but it must have ones!

I bought my Cube01 for very low volume playing. Something that gave a good tone and that I could still hear the TV with while playing. That's basically 1-2 on the volume dial...if that. Once you turn it up past that it turns to $h¡+, mainly because of the speaker I guess but that's okay cuz I didn't buy it for those volumes.
I believe the Cube10X comes with a handful of modulation effects if you require them.

With onboard reverb a 3-band EQ and Roland Jazz chorus clean and Mesa Rectifier inspired lead, it's been a great buy at a hundred bucks.

Yamaha makes a THR5, too. I've also tried the tiny Katana and it is great for a tiny space or practice.

I would look at a Fender Super Champ X2, power output tubes, great blackface clean tone that works beautifully with pedals, effects that are programmable and channel 2 is guitar amp models that are tweakable. I personally don't use channel 2 but I use overdrive/distortion in front of the amp and sounds fantastic.

I looked at a Katana today. VERY cool! Clean, Grit, Distortion, 3EQ and delay....I do love some Roland Tones!

I'm not trying to go mini - but I really don't want even medium. I have a Cube 30. I'm talking 15 watts solid state max. I may be willing to lighten up on the 3 band EQ. I saw a cool Vox today also.

Never heard of the Cube 01. I might go Cube GX if I go cube.

I have a Cube 30 in my bedroom now
I have a Peavey VIP2 in the living room
The closet holds.the Laney and Carvin, they are loud

Heck the VIP2 is loud

Try the VIP1 or one of the older Vyper 15
Way under $100
