Looking For A New Distortion Pedal

I'm not entirely happy with my Boss Metal Zone.. At practice voluems its gret, but when I crank my amp its a little harsh. I'm looking for soemthing better. I play mainly 80's rock/metal and I also play newer stuff like Shadows Fall/Killswitch Engage/Trivium/Lamb of God. My amp is a Box Valvetronix 100 watt half stack, and for gutiars I use a Jackson RR5, kramer Focus 1000 w/ DUncan Distortion, Charvel Model 3 w/ Dimebucker and an LTD KH-202 w/a Duncan Distortion. The only other pedals I use are my Seymour Duncan Pickup Booster to boost my solos and a DUnlop Crybaby.

The Pedals I'm checking out are the Electro Harmonix metal Muff, MXR DD-11 Dime Distortion, Visual Sound Jekyll and Hyde Distortion and Overdrive Pedal, and various Rocktron one(Zombie, Silver Dragon, and there was one other but I don't remember what it was.. wasnt the metal Planet)

So what do you guys think?? I'm really leaning towards a Metal Muff, DD-11 or Jekyll and Hyde.

Hey,

I got myself a Metal Muff about a month ago and I'm still smiling about it now, it's absolutely fantastic. I've been playing for 15 or so years and it's the best pedal I've owned bar none. I've just got rid of my Digitech GNX3 which was good as was the Metal Zone I've jus sold as well, but neither could touch the Metal Muff for sound and flexibility

I've heard alot of good things about the Metall Muff, as well as the Jekyll and Hyde and the DD-11...

I was thinking about geting the Jekyll and Hyde so I can use the distortion for my heavy ehythm tone then kick on the ovedrive as a lead boost. Then I can get rid of my distortion pedal AND my Seymour Duncan Pickup Booster. Then I'll just have 2 pedals:smokin:

Re: Looking For A New Distortion Pedal

The Metal Muff comes with a 'Top Boost' switch for lead that really makes it sing. It depends how easy it is for you to do this obviously, but I always think that the best thing to do is to go out to a music store and try them out and se which one sounds best to you.

I have Boss MT-2, MD-2, EHx Metal Muff, Big Muff Pi, Rocktron Zombie, Keeley 3-Way RAT II, and a bunch of others. My favorite is still the Boss MD-2.
