Looking for a new guitar

Hey guys! So I'm on the hunt for a new guitar to have around. I'm asking for your help in showing me a couple guitars that meet a couple specs of mine.

I understand I can go online and search myself, but I find that guitars stand out a lot more when someone else presents the idea, essentially I don't know I need it until someone shows it to me.

My price cap I'd like to keep under 700 total. I don't mind used, but I'd like it to be in good shape.

Major specs I want it to have,
Oiled neck (similar to the evh guitars)
25.5 scale
Prefer hard tail, but I can mess with a Floyd if it comes to it
Prefer hh setup, but if it's got a humbucker bridge I can probably live with it.

So, with that in mind, could you guys help show me some guitars? Styles don't matter, and it doesn't need to be gears towards playing a certain style of music, I'm just looking for another quality axe!

Re: Looking for a new guitar

If you don't mind turning a screwdriver and applying finish/oil yourself you could order a custom Warmoth the way you like it for about that.

Re: Looking for a new guitar

I've never worked with finishing a guitar or neck. I feel comfortable putting parts together but not so much applying a finish

What SnakeAces said for the specs you mentioned

A handrubbed oil finish is super easy and while it requires somewhat routine maintenance to make sure the wood doesn't dry out, it looks beautiful and is super easy to do. FWIT, to those who ears can tell the difference–light oil finish sounds better/no thick poly coats masking the guitar...

Re: Looking for a new guitar

I would just be finishing the neck in oil. The body I'd get already finished hopefully. That's too big of a project for me right now

Ah, well Van Halen left his original necks raw...I don't recommend raw personally but thats what he did. Also, if you go with a roasted maple it should be better raw or with a hand rubbed oil finish. You can use Danish Oil/Gunstock Oil and it feels very nice in the hands.

Re: Looking for a new guitar

The neck I'd finish like his wolfgang series has. I have a wolfgang special and that's where I fell in love with the neck. Lightly hand oiled it says, so that's what I'm after

Re: Looking for a new guitar

Sometimes Warmoth has some "screaming deals" on bodies and necks where you can find a finished body in the $250-$350 range. Order an unfinished neck for about $250 and just add your small parts plus pickups. You should be right around $700 or just a hair over and have a custom axe with the specs you like that used great wood. I have 3 Warmoth guitars and one Warmoth bass currently. They're fantastic instruments IMO.

There are other options too and even other custom builders out there of course. So, check around, check Craigslist, ebay, forum classifieds, etc and weigh out your options.

Re: Looking for a new guitar

Applying "Tru Oil" to a neck is SUPER easy, makes a hard, durable and awesome feeling finish. LIterally, you just wipe it on with something, and when you get enough on (depending on how shiny you want it) you buff it with really old worn denim. I've done as little as one coat, and as many as... well, I lost count somewhere in the 20's. But seriously, you can oil a neck or a body while watching a movie or whatever. If I can do it, anybody can!

Re: Looking for a new guitar

If I could somehow manage to find a hard tail white body on their site for sale, I could finish a neck with some oil if it's as simple as rub on and buff a bit. Seems cheaper than funding a new one
