Darkness on the edge of Tone
I'm looking for a decent two-channel mic preamplifier which will be used for drum overheads in the first instance, and then for adding another character to my recordings besides the SSL.
Budget: $1-1.5k
An engineer friend of mine recommended Great River, but at $2200, I can't make the stretch.
Does anyone have any experience with the following, or can you make a recommendation based on first-hand experience, for something comparable?
The preamps I'm looking at are:
ARSENAL AUDIO R20
BUZZ AUDIO SA1.1
MERCURY RECORDING AM16
MERCURY RECORDING GRAND PRE
