looking for a part...

I have no idea what to call it.. but it's missing... haha

It's the little ring/nut that holds a Gibson toggle switch in place. In this case it's for an Explorer, but I think it's the same for all Gibsons.

I've only seen this piece available for purchase with the complete toggle switch.. which is 25 bucks.. I just need the little ring.

I've checked Stewmac/Allparts and can't find it.. Anyone know where I can get one? Or if anyone has an extra one lying around.

If all else fails I guess I can just get a regular nut that's the right size.. Right now, my switch is falling inside the pickgard.

Re: looking for a part...

I'd bite the bullet and buy the complete switch. Chalk it up to experience and a lesson well-learned: Don't lose parts from your guitars.

Re: looking for a part...

Check guitarpartsresource.com

They have tons of random parts like that. GFS also has one but it won't be original.

Re: looking for a part...

thanks guys. not sure of the exact size.. I don't have the tools to measure. - but it's for the toggle switch. It's bigger than the nut that goes over the jack. It's a USA Gibson, so it's probably not metric.

Also to clarify - I'm NOT talking about the plastic ring that says rhythm and treble). it's the little nut that goes over it (in the case of a Les Paul) - it's circular and knurled - not the usual hexagonal nut.

WD music seems to sell these buggers for $1 - but they have a minimum order of $19.95. Also they're Switchcraft brand..not sure if it's the same size as Gibson

I'll keep looking around.. or if you got one, PM me.. and we'll work something out.. I can send you a box of marshmellow Peeps or something..haha.

Re: looking for a part...

FYI, Epiphone parts will not fit, Switchcraft will. There are two types of those nuts, the regular flat flush ones and the deep thread ones. I know they sell the deep thread ones at Guitar Parts Resource, but I haven't seen the regular flat ones for sale by themselves.

The deep thread ones look like this:

EDIT: Pictures of the two types installed...

Yes Sabbathfan (and Jake and Mojo) - that's the thing! I'm not sure if it's the "deep" or the flush one that I need. It's for an Explorer and goes on the pickguard, so I'm thinking it's probably the flush one - it looks like the "deep" ones are for Les Pauls. I never really looked at it closely - as Cinderella once sang "you don't know what you got til it's gone".. :biglaugh:
