Looking for a Very Specific Tone

Alright boys, I am caught in love with the Custom's chunk and aggressiveness and the JB's natural singing voice, the buttery uppermids.

However, each has it's imperfections...

The Custom seems to sound a little spikey on the treble side at times... not a significant deal, but nothing like the richness of the JB.

The JB, while sufficient, lacks the kind of 'oomph' in the bottom end that I need in my hard rock/metal band situations. I mean it's absolutely lovely for my solo work but when I need the crunchy rhythms, it just can't produce like my other Custom loaded axe can.

I'm trying to find a nice balanced pickup with med-high output. A nice medium between the pickups. Great powerful rhythms and soft, smooth leads. Any suggestions? Gonna need TB spacing...

Thanks in advance.

Re: Looking for a Very Specific Tone

IIRC, You have the Custom in mohogany, and the JB in Alder? Try switching them! A JB in mohogany I've found to have wonderful oomph, and still retain that great singing quality.

Re: Looking for a Very Specific Tone

I've got the Custom in a mahogany body Schecter and I've got both: great chunky rythm tones and singing leads that cut....but then I've never tried a JB.

Re: Looking for a Very Specific Tone

I love the Custom 5 I have in my Schecter (mahogany body), and it delivers plenty of chunk/thump while keeping a very throaty lead tone. Perhaps you could try one of those?

Re: Looking for a Very Specific Tone

Out of the Custom, C-5, CC, and JB, I'd say that the Custom is a lotta everything, the C-5 has the tightest lows and natural sound, the CC has darker lows than the JB, an emphasis on the low mids, and a top thats a little more airy than the JB. The JB has punchy lows, an emphasis in highmids, and a rounded top.
