Looking for an A/B Box

So I now have a Marshall and a Fender amp. I'd like to get a good A/B switch so I can go clean or dirty or both. Any suggestions? I see some on eBay. Let me know if there are any I should avoid.

Rock on.

Re: Looking for an A/B Box

Morley's will give you A/B and A+B, but it's not active or buffered. So you have a split signal when running A+B. In other words, you tone will change on both amps when the signal is being split between the two. There's a Morley George Lynch pedal that I think runs three outs, and buffers them all. That might be better for you, but the standard Morley A/B will work fine. I can't remember if it's the A/B/Y or the A/B/C but you'll be able to figure it out.

I have the Morley A/B/Y. Its a good pedal, but its a little noisey in the sense when you switch from one amp to the other it pops. It also does not switch all the way. What I mean is on occassions when I step on it it does not switch completely. I have used this pedal for abot 10 years and I repaired it twice, so its pretty dependable. Both times the repairs were necessary because I was playing around with it and I broke a wire inside. The major drawback is it does not have a power supply only batteries and if you keep your board all hooked up (I do) it will drain the battery. I made my own power supply for it so I could keep it plugged in.

Puckboy has recommended me a much better pedal but I can't remember who makes it. I will be making a new board in the future and will replace this Morely with a better one. I know Divided by13 makes one called a Switchhazel that has a lot more features, but its 275$. and a few other boutique builders are making them now also. The ones above are a Morley and a DOD. They will work but I believe there are better ones out there.

I'm using a behringer ab100 which is cheap and while it changes tone slightly i beleive it improves the sound (lows less flabby highs slightly smoother but clearer) although it does add noise if using with a distortion pedal (when the dist is on).

To me it seems that alot of the cheaoer ones mess with your tone which for me is always a no-no!!

Grab a Startouch A/B or A/B/Y to run them together.

New, they're about $100.00, but used maybe in the $60.00 range.

I've got a A/B for switching channels on 1 amp & an A/B/Y for switching 2 amps......nice & quiet :bigok:

Check out www.fulltone.com. Under the tips & tricks section of his site there is a .pdf file that shows you how to build a true-bypass A/B switch. I got the part from www.smallbearelec.com for 20 bucks and had a fun 2 hours putting it together. I use it to switch between two different amps and it doesn't alter my sound at all.

He is right these are really cool boxes!! I do have to wonder how you got the parts for $20 though!! You must not have used the Fulltone switch.

Exactly I had a switch laying around from another project. You can find these switches all over ebay for 4-6 bucks a piece though. The fulltone switch isn't worthe the money he gets!!! It's rediculous!!!

Re: Looking for an A/B Box

Anyone wanna make me one of those Fulltone boxes? I will buy.

Won't it cause ground loops. though?

BTW BREWTONE, your Signature has some killer rigs - I am jealous!

Re: Looking for an A/B Box

WELL........the Framptone & Lehle are probably the top 2, but they cost more.

You'll get the same thing for less with the Startouch.

IMHO :beerchug:

Re: Looking for an A/B Box

PM me, if you're interested in buying my Morley ABC switch on the cheap.
The benefit of an ABC is that you can use C to run a one way signal to your tuner for silent tuning.

No problem Brutha!

In all honesty, I bought both my Startouch pedal used for $50 each & they're great pedals....but I was on the verge of buying the Lehle before I stumbled onto my 1st Startouch.

They cost a bit much, but after having nothing but noise from my cheaper Morley, I thought I'd skip to the head of the line & just get what I know will do the trick.

FWIW, some guys have no problem with the Morley & are perfectly happy with them.

Maybe grab GJs if it's cheap enough  that way, you're not out a bunch of money. Personally, I needed an A/B/Y for using different amps.

Tonebone also makes something called a "Switchbone" & I hear they're pretty damned good too.

Man, nothing like confusing the issue, huh :laugh2:

Re: Looking for an A/B Box

I've got a Loopmaster A/B box for sale in the Trading Post. Excellent built quality and pretty inexpensive.
