Looking for help with HSH wiring the H in series with the S for an HSH set-up

I tried to use the Seymour Duncan wiring diagram generator and got the image A diagram. What I'd like to do is have the Humbucker in series with the Single Coil for position 2; therefore, no split coil or coil tap. And have the S in series with the Humbucker in position 4. This would leave the S as a solo pickup in position 3. My reason is that I don't like split coiling and this is a better way to keep my current gear and learn about the 5 way switch.

To do this I can't have a jumper form A1 to A2 (for position 2) without having a jumper from A2 to A3 (for position 4). That would mean in position 2 or 4 that all of pickups would be on at the same time. Wires on B2 and B3 would still have their wires going to their tone pots. So does that mean I need a jumper wire from B2 to A2 for position 2 and a jumper wire form A3 to B3? All I want to do is have H and S in series with each other in position 2 and S and H in series with each other in position 4. Does anyone know how to do this properly? Thanks.

That drawing won't even work for getting any sound at all.

I believe you'd need a super switch because for series you have to connect the ground wire of one of the two to the hot of the other, but only in position 2. You wouldn't have enough lugs to manage the hots for all pickups and move the ground for one of them with a typical 5-way.

Why in series, especially?

The regular 5-way HSH with the humbucker "middle" wires soldered together on each humbucker will give you the full bridge humbucker plus middle in parallel in P2 and the full neck humbucker plus middle in parallel in P4.

If you really want humbuckers plus middle in series in P2 and P4 as beaubrummels said, you'll need a superswitch.

So if I did it in parallel in position 2 and 4, could I use a jumper wire from B2 to A2 for position 2 and a jumper wire form A3 to B3? I'm looking to avoid the current split coil which doesn't sound good at all.

If you want parallels, just take the "middle" wires from each humbucker, solder them together and tape off (better, heat shrink) the bare ends to insulate them.

Next join the humbucker "hots" to a standard 5-way switch just like they were single coils. Ground the "colds" and the bare wires.

Wire up the middle single coil normally.

Decide how you want the tones to work and wire them up as required.

Job done.

This will work for humbuckers and the middle in series, but you're limited to having tones on 2 out of the 3 pickups, or using a single, master, tone.
