Looking for preamp tube recommendations

The power tubes are dying on my girlfriend's DC-5 and while we were talking about replacing them, the idea of replacing some of the preamp tubes came up. I dont know much about preamp tubes, but we are basically looking for something that will work well for her fiddle. Think better headroom, possibly a touch darker than whatever is in there (I assume they are stock, since the power tubes are). Any suggestions?

Also could someone enlighten me as to what which preamp tubes effect? I checked the manual and couldn't find any info.

JJ ECC83S I just love them. Slightly warmer and low noise. They are current production so they won't rob you (cost around 10$ each)
