looking for some pup advice since its been a long time since changing out any of mine. these will be for a semi hollow body i made (body and all) some 15+ years ago and over the years somehow the bridge pup no longer works. pulled it out and tested in another guitar no go. so time to upgrade but im going to upgrade both bridge and neck. both are humbuckers.

the body is actually made of mahogany with a top cap of zebra wood with a thin stripe of maple down the back. its semi hollow. i can post some pic's if needed. schaller 47501 bridge, sperzel locking tuners, 22fret bolted on rosewood fingerboard maple neck. simple volume, tone knob 3 way selector.

anyway wondering where to start. should i just do the old faithful combo of jb / 59 setup, or i noticed the slash set but have no idea how those compare to the jb / 59 since i never played or heard them in person. otherwise what should i look to?

play a lot of 80's stuff, lots of blues, some metal. amps i usually use are a modded crate blue voodoo 120, mesa triple, new style 5150, modded soldano among a few others. i know back when i did a lot of pup swaps i used a number of jb / 59 combos but im sure a lot has come since then. also can someone compare the slash set to the jb /59 setup and would they work out in a semi hollow okay? otherwise what sd combos should i look at?

thanks all!!

these are a few i had on hand from a couple weeks ago when i started tearing it all down. ill take some more when i get my better camera from the office this weekend. the pups used to have the covers on them i just removed them to see if i could play around with them. i knew i was replacing them anyway. the bridge is in the garage ready for a nice new nickel plate this weekend. the neck has since been removed to get sanded and cleaned up. the poly on the headstock cracked everywhere on me and was flaking off and from no use for a long time the frets are in pretty rough shape. id actually like to find a new neck for it. would love a lp style neck but have not been able to find a nice one that i like yet. (any suggestions?) going to give it new pots and a new 3 way switch also ordering those this week and re-oil the wood inside the cutouts since you can see its pretty dull now. used to play this thing all the time and i really dont know why i havent in so long. i got into my fender's, jacksons and ibanez ones and my lp's and this saw little use. i still love the glam but now i enjoy a lot of other styles more than i used to.

i do have a jb in my hm japan strat (jb, jb jr and little 59'er in that one), and one in one of my jacksons. and have installed many jb / 59 setups in lp's but i dont know maybe just looking for something different? im just not sure with this being semi hollow and harder wood what will sound right. the pups installed now came out of a lp custom from the mid 80's someone destroyed at a local concert and gave me what was left so i re-used them. they were nice but a little laid back and needed a bit more life imo.
