Looking for something diff.. Dimarzio questions/suggestions

Im looking for something different for my one of my Charvels. In nearly every one of my guitars, I have either a 59b, 59 or Jazz in the neck. Im not feeling the jazz in this one..

So, was looking for an interesting neck pup. Then, was thinking, maybe Ill change both for some variety..

Now, I worry about trying Dimarzios as I havent gelled with most of the neck pups Ive tried.. PAF/PAF Pro.. And didnt care for the stock Dimarzios that came in my Pro Mod

Was reading alot of threads here stating how good the Air Norton is in the neck..
And then reading that the Air Norton / Air Zone is a good set..
Also read lots of good reviews of the crunch lab/liquifier set..

Ive used a Tone Zone. How does the Air Zone compare??

How do the Air norton/AZ set and the CL/Liquifier set compare or differ?

Any other recommendations??

Thanks

Re: Looking for something diff.. Dimarzio questions/suggestions

The Air Norton is really one of my favourite neck pickups. It can do a lot.

I haven't played an Air Zone. But I would expect it to have lower output and sound more 'vintage' than a Tone Zone.

I have played the Dimarzio AT-1 which apparently is close to a Air Zone (but not as hot) and that sounded fantastic!

I've also played the Norton bridge pickup, which I think would be a great complement to the Air Norton in the neck. The description describes it as somewhere between a FRED and a Tone Zone... and I think that is accurate.

Right now my favorite DiMarzio set is the Norton in the bridge with a Humbucker From Hell in the neck. The Norton may not be a heavyweight as far as output is concerned but it just throws out the right frequencies for heavy stuff if that's what you're into, and the harmonics are amazing. Even better than the evo which I had in this guitar previously. The HFH just hits the sweet spot for me crystal clear no matter what you throw at it, but still sounds very much like a humbucker despite what some may say

The Gravity Storm is cool too, it's definitely in the same territory as an air norton, but it really shines in parallel in my opinion because it gets a very cool strat like squish in the low end thats really cool for leads, and then with the flick of a switch you're back into a really warm round sounding humbucker in series. I've got mine on a triple shot.

I like the AT-1 a lot. Maybe with an Air Norton in the neck? I like clarity in my neck tone so for my own tastes I'd be considering the Humbucker From Hell too.
