Looking into getting a power conditioner for my anp

Re: Looking into getting a power conditioner for my anp

If you have crappy AC coming out the wall sure but if things are good as is I wouldn't bother. Transformer spaced outlets just mean there's room for "wall wart" type power supplies like pedals use.

Oh i see. Good to know, i’ll give it a try without it first. Sorry about the typeo in my thread topic.

That's not really a power "conditioner" -I'm a bit disappointed in the language thrown around by Furman on this one.

Earlier I had typed the same response as you but never hit “reply”.
It’s really just a power strip.

Waste of money for nothing but a glorified power strip.

"Real" voltage regulators are very expensive...and not needed for musical instrument amps for live use anyhow. They are more of use in a recording studio. I have one in my darkroom, because they *are* a good idea for color printing, to avoid slight variations in bulb color from print to print.

Just get a nice quality power strip with the desired trip current, and you're fine for most uses.

When I looked at these, only surge protection was of value. I don’t use wall warts with rack systems and never used/need edthe rack lights.

My power regulator/conditioner/backup is running my security camera system.

For the core of my audio recording stuff I use a small format Furman AC215 that was designed for home cinema stuff. It is not a conditioner but can filter input power quite effectively and it has a pretty neat surge protection. It is coupled with an 480W FSP UPS that does some base level power conditioning.

I started to use the Furman many years ago when the neighbourhood around produced some insane electric power noise that made bedroom audio production impossible. The UPS is also an old friend of mine, protecting computers and delicate stuff.

Onstage I can't recall I needed any of them really. There is a power strip with surge protection but that's it.

A good power filter isn't as good as a good power conditioner, but it can solve a bunch of noise and stability issues, particularly if there's anything digital involved. But even analog gear can benefit from not having power line noise, particularly old low-filtration amps and effects.

An actual power conditioner/UPS suitable for audio gear is even trickier, as a lot of the ones designed for computer use do weird duty cycles or odd waveforms, and aren't good for non-computer gear.

If you're looking for a glorified power strip I'd recommend Tripp Lite over Furman. At least the Tripp Lites have isolated filter banks (either a couple outlets per bank or each output isolated, depending on the model)
