Now this is one of the few years where the S was a bit thicker. It's big difference when I go from it to my 5570 (Liquifire/Red Velvet/Flipped Steve's Special) in feel and tone. The 5570 sound pretty Prog Rock/Metal for this guitar I'm wanting more of a classic fat sound

So PAF Pros are the factory pickups, and part of me feels like I might be chasing my tail here, but I figured I'd ask the question. Over all the pickups sound....good...pretty good. My first fight with them is I don't feel like they are as touch sensitive as the Liquifire and SS in my other S. Like I said it sounds good, and while I wait for tubes for the XTC I'm using my 2204 exclusively and after lowering the tone down 3/4 of the way and cranking the tone knob on the GT-OD I finally got these pickups closer to where I want to be. But we are still pretty far off. It's partially the EQ, it's also pretty dry feeling/sound. Now, this is a gorgeous guitar I've put a lot of time in to bring it up to as close to JC feel as possibly, and with the killer wood selection I believe this guitar should sound GREAT.

I have been considering sticking with Dimarzios and going with an Air Zone, AT-1 for the bridge slot and something like the Air Norton for the neck. Then I thought maybe I should go with more of a vintage sound Lo Pro be darned and do a set of 36th anniversary pickups or PAF Masters. I'm open to thoughts about what would sound good from the Duncan stable, since I've never put SDs in an Ibanez. The JB is always the first thing I think of for a super strat, but with the mahogany and maple neck/veneer I think I'm going to steer clear. I was thinking maybe go with a CC and an A2P or PG Bridge for the neck? But I also know I love the Distortion, and part of me says just grab that and an A2 neck pickup of my choice and run with it.

Anyhow, let me know your experiences with pickup swapping in an S.

Thanks!

Luke
