Looks like the custom 5 is the new OEM choice over the JB?

Re: Looks like the custom 5 is the new OEM choice over the JB?

Schecter just started using the Jazz as the neck pickup in some guitars, too. Maybe people realized that there's more to the Duncan line than the JB & '59 :D

I agree the JB is real good bvut duncan has many other great pups as well
i have never tried a C5? how different is it from a custom?

It was my Shecter C1 that came with a '59/Distortion setup that turned me on to Duncan. I just wish I had switched out the pups before I sold the guitar.

great!
C5 is a much better oem choice than jb is, imho. jb is good, but c5 is more versitile. who has c5 in a floyd guitar? I am considering putting it in my mahogany RG to replace the tone zone. how does it sound?

Becsause the JB sounds like crap!!!! LOL!!!!! Maybe people are finally starting to figure this out and maybe they are not buying into the JB "hype" anymore.

What is it with the JB that make you so passionate against it?

Heh....in a Les Paul or similar mahog/maple gluein/neck through I don't care for the JB at all...the frequencies of pup and the natural frequencies of the wood overlap...they sound buzzy and shrieky to me...in a SG or similar without the maple they may be OK...but its been many years since I've heard a JB in that type of guitar

but in a bolt on alder guitar, I really like the JB

Re: Looks like the custom 5 is the new OEM choice over the JB?

I like the JB more than the Custom 5...but what I'd really like is a pickup right between the two. Thicker in the mids than the C5 and not so "penetrating" and "hard in the upper mids" as the JB.

I have a C5 in an Alder bodied, maple necked, Floyd Rose equipped GMW Guitarworks guitar. The C5 replaced a Dimarzio Tone Zone. The C5 really sounds great.......to me it has a fatter tone that works well with Floyded guitars.....hell I think it is such a well rounded tone....it works in just about anything. I think of it being like a 59 with more output & a fatter low end.

The JB is great, but sometimes it needs some tweaking...most peope forget they have a tone knob!
