My Flying V's bridge pickup is loose and wobbly. I'm not sure why. Has anybody else seem this with their V, and what can be done about it? Thanks ahead for any input.

welcome to the forum!!

ive seen it on plenty of guitars. no big deal
how high is the pup set? you could try replacing the springs with surgical tubing

Typical of V's bridge pu, it's set about as high as it can be. No, I haven't tried any surgical tubing. Can you elaborate?

Re: Loose/Wobbly Bridge Pickup (Flying V)

the wobbliness doesnt have any real effect on the tone, most pickups will wobble like that, i know most of mine do. But if its wobbling uncontrollably you might have a problem.

what jeremy meant by surgical tubing is that you should replace the springs that go around the screws under your pickup mounting rings with tubing. Because the tubing cant expand or be squeezed your pickups wont be able to move from side to side. But you really only need to do that if it physically bothers you, it shouldnt have any tonal impact.

Thanks for the elaboration on the surgical tape. My pu actually gets in the way one in a while, which is annoying. Hey, now I've got a new project to work on!

Thanks for the info.

You can also flank the side of the pickup route with a little foam, like packing material, mousepad, or a slice of the Duncan packaging foam. If you put a sliver on either side of the pickup it'll hold steady without restricting vertical adjustments.
