Los Lonely Boys Strat Tone

There is a song by Los Lonely Boys called "Heaven" on the Country charts and on the Country video countdown on CMT as of recently. The song actually sounds more Bluesy than Country. The guitarist is playing a strat. He has a great tone. If anyone has heard this song, what vintage Strat pickup do you think would sound like that tone?

Great tone on that song. I heard a live version of it on one of the late night talk shows a few weeks ago. Paging through Guitar World magazine at the bookstore, IIRC there was an article about the strat playing guitarist. Not sure what he uses, but I'm sure we will find out.

Re: Los Lonely Boys Strat Tone

i read somewhere that he claims to play a stock mexican strat. for one i doubt that it is a stock mexi strat, and also keep in mind that his amp, and other equipment ,as well as the mixing process in the studio has an affect on his tone.

Re: Los Lonely Boys Strat Tone

id say an ssl1 would get that type of tone, nice clean and stratty.
my bass player really digs those guys

Re: Los Lonely Boys Strat Tone

ive seen em live 3 times and every time he has used american strats into a marshall DSL through a bogner 2x12 cab and a twin reverb

im guessing that its probably a stock american strat neck pickup......which an SSL1 would be somewhat close to but probably a bit better sounding....

Me too. Sounds to me like just a nice alnico 5 vintage style Strat pickup played by someone who knows how to get a great sound out of Strat.

SSL-1's would do the trick.
