Louis Amplification?

Re: Louis Amplification?

He's been around awhile---built some Twins for Danny Gatton, etc. Almost bought one of his tweed knockoffs a year or two back off the 'Bay. Looked good to me...

Re: Louis Amplification?

well, Little Robert, what would you like to know?

I played one out in Prunedale a few weeks ago .. the porthole model. My friend likes it so much he got the Bluesbreaker, which he says will replace a few of his amps.

Re: Louis Amplification?

Andy Aledort used the Bluesbreaker model on the new instructional DVD about blues.

I don't know much about them, but it sounded great and you can listen to it all over that dvd with a strat, LP, 335, and firebird.

Re: Louis Amplification?

Louis Rosano is the unsung guitar amp builder, you never hear his name mentioned alongside Victoria, Clark, Germino etc etc, but his amps are just as good if not better. I tried his Twinmaster, which is a clone of a late 50's Fender Tweed, and that was hands down the best tweed tone I have ever heard. I also tried the V12, Bluesbreaker and his new "Ferrari" amp which is based off a 6ca7 power section. Great guy and very talented builder.

Prundale... I'm in Monterey and go to the jam at the Moss Landing Inn once in a while.

Is it the one with 6L6s or EL34s that you played?

I'm interested in the KR12 - EL34s

Those clips sound fantastic - THE sound I'm looking for, but want to know if the master volume works. I'd use it to play at jams and get-togethers that go from kinda quite to Too loud for this little bar.

Want some natural sounding crunch and that loose spongy sound as well. I don't like pedals, and don't really like master volumes either - but if it works...

Does the Bluesbreaker he got have the master volume on it?

Where'd your friend buy his? I'd like to check them out.

Thanks for the info

Re: Louis Amplification?

I met him when he first started. HE used to bring one of his amps to the LI guitar show every year back in the early 90's. I thought his amps were very impressive designs and they sounded better than most of the other Fender clones I had played thru. His Amps are not Fender clones in any way. He builds every componant that he can to his own specs. His circuits are loosely based on Fender and Marshall designs, but they don't sound exactly the same. They are very responsive amps. Any body know what they run??

I don't know if the BB has a master, but Louis' site should say

my friend got his from Go Go music in L A ... they're listed in the dealers

Any body know what they run??

Dave,
I believe the BB was around $2700 - $2800

Re: Louis Amplification?

I got a chance to play a Gattone and a Bluesbreaker combo and both were phenomenal. The setup he has for using the four inputs to activate increasing gain stages is awesome. When upping the stages on the Gattone it was like a fire breathing Vibrolux and the lead tone was raw and singing (with a LP Custom, 57 Classics). It never got unusable or fizzed out. It was the best time I ever had being massacred by 10 inch speakers!
The bluesbreaker was like a tighter, slightly gainier marshall reissue. It had a traditional Marshall input setup. I always thought the Marshall reissues were too weak for plugging right in but the Louis version was good to go. He told me he built in a treble booster circuit into the bright vol's input so it would really kick.
I was going to get him to make me a JTM45 head with the same gain stage setup as the Gattone but my job's toast in two months so no go for now. I just know it would have been an awesome amp. If I get a new job in time I'll be on the phone pronto.
Lou is also a great guy to talk to on the phone and can setup an amp anyway you like. He'll make it tighter, looser, gainier, cleaner. Whatever you want.

Re: Louis Amplification?

Ok, I'm Curly's friend in Prunedale and I have the KR-12 and the Bluesbreaker. They are both incredible amplifiers. The bb is especially interesting as it sounds like an old amplifier right out of the gate. I have a load of amplifiers that are all great, but for the mojo factor the Louis line is second to none. Like some of the other posts say, he is a bit under the radar but a gifted builder.

The other prundale member can give me an e-mail or anyone else at telecaster@msn.com

Props to Lou

Re: Louis Amplification?

After seeing this post I reached out to him and we spoke on the phone. We may be doing some business in the future! SOunds like he has what I am looking for!

Re: Louis Amplification?

Yo, Jack!!!!!!!!!!!!
welcome to the best forum!

it's great to see my ole friend Jack Creek here ....

he's a good player, and is being a bit understated about his amp collection ... Jack's owned a number of great amps in his quest for tone, including Two Rocks (I thought he was an artist/ endorser?), /13, 65 Amps, Clark Matchless, Swart, etc, etc.

we've had a few good tone fests, to say the least

when he got his Louis Bluesbreaker recently, he told me, "man, I'm selling some amps, 'cause I don't need 'em. I've just played the best amp, period!!!"

I said, "you mean, Beano tone?" :)

that's a great place to be, IMO. Jack said the BB likes LPs for sure, but sounds great with strats and teles as well.

thanks for the post, Jack
