I got the Lovepedal Eternity the other day. It really surpasses my expectations.
The unit comes with 2 interchangeable IC's. One is fat and smooth, the other is brighter. The controls are VOLUME, TREBLE, and CLIP (which controls the distortion level).
The fat chip is awesome. I played the Les Paul through the Eternity and Metropolis. The Eternity was set with volume @ 10 o'clock, treble off, and clip @ noon. The tones are strikingly reminiscent of a cranked '59 Tweed Bassman I played at Tommy B's a while ago. Very warm, lush and airy. It really does have the sound of burning 6L6 power tubes.
The thin chip is also wonderful. Its the same basic tone, but with a more clear high end. Low notes stay round and defined. Sustain is very impressive. This is a JRC4559. The 808 uses a JRC 4558, which the catalog notes is "general purpose," while the 4559 is "wide bandwidth."
The tone is very vintage sounding. No mid-range hump. No squishy compression. Great sustain. Its all there. Other pedals I tried included Maxon OD9, Fulltone FD2, Crowther Hot Cake, and some others.
This will allow me to sell or trade at least 2 or 3 other pedals.
Sean's done a brilliant job, and he's a great guy to talk with. The Eternity isn't cheap, but after years of frustrations with overdrives, it is finally remedied, and I can let go of some other pedals without any worry at all.
