Anybody got a PG, 59, Seth, or Deamon they use for Metal, and if so what were your results. Thanks.

Re: Low output pups for Metal ?

Um..Godsmack uses the PG and they get some pretty heavy tones. I think that if you're going to be using a high gain amp, lower output pickups seem to work best.

Re: Low output pups for Metal ?

I have a Deamon. Hooked it up Series/Split/Parllel with a Single coil in the neck position. I love it man! Give me alot of sounds with a quick switch to another while it purrs like a kitten while growling like a Dog at the same time. SWEET

Re: Low output pups for Metal ?

Thanks BeanDip, and yes its a high gain amp, Crate GT1200 1/2 stack. 120wtts, 3ch, 4X12 cab.

Re: Low output pups for Metal ?

yeah man, if you're runnin a high gain amp, you want the PG or 59. it really helps to have a vintage voiced pickup, since you can let your playing technique and amp help you get the heavy tones. They also allow alot of clarity on the low end strings so you get a better bass "thump"

Re: Low output pups for Metal ?

Thank you my friend, and allways a big help.

Re: Low output pups for Metal ?

I agree, when your amp has more gain than you could ever use, you're better off going with lower output pickups. Think of Eddie's sound on the first few VH records. His tone was huge, and he used PAF's into a Plexi.

does that apply to distortion pedals too ? For example, would a lower output pup sound better with a high gain distortion pedal such as the metal zone, grunge or tri metal ?

Re: Low output pups for Metal ?

yes, I dont know why, but it always sounds good. I've heard guys using a hotrails through a metal zone, and it comes out total mush, so in order to try and fix that, they use a super hot/bright amp, and it just sounds like sh*t.

Re: Low output pups for Metal ?

Gary, if there's anything I can ever help you out with man, just let me know. Keep on rockin' and give Hayley and CJ my best. Later bro.

Re: Low output pups for Metal ?

You know...now I want to try lower output pups! I have a pretty high gain amp set up (Mesa 50/50 power amp with Peavey rocmaster pre-amp), and I like the sound I get with my dimbebucker. But now you guys are making me curious! Hehe. Plus I've always wanted to try PGs...

Re: Low output pups for Metal ?

On the other hand, I play through a high gain amp and I use high output pickups (Distortion, Custom, Hot Rails, EMG 89's) and I have no problem getting good tone.
