i've recently acquired an LP standard and the top is like a browny butterscotch/goldtop and has a sticker on the back of the headstock saying 'limited colours edition'? i can't find any information on the net regarding when they were produced and all the other relevant stuff.
any info/links would be appreciated!

Re: LP standard 'limited colours' edition

Someone ran a thread recently on Gibson serial # ID...I just deleted the link...what do you expect from someone who had been living in NSW?

It's that residual southern hemisphere air left in my brain.

Manhattan Midnight, Pacific Reef Blue, Sante Fe Sunrise, and Black Cherry w/ Cream binding. Produced in a "limited run" in 2004. The consensus was Gibson was looking to introduce a new perm finish, did a limited run to see which one out of the four was the most popular. Don't think it ever happened though. They came with ebony boards instead of rosewood, bound headstocks with a flowerpot inlay. Came stock with Burstbucker 1 and 2 (neck and bridge, respectively). Offered with both the 50's neck and the 60's slim. Kluson style, but with metal buttons instead of plastic.

google is your friend ;)

i heard that was a sticker they keep around the factory for when the batches of paint get mixed up and you end up with something like a geckoburst.

Re: LP standard 'limited colours' edition

If its a Gibson they don't use colours , they use colors
I would re-check that sticker, you probably have a chinese knock-off:lmao:

Edit: oops I guess I should have said re-cheque

Unless it was a limited run for the European/Australian markets, and they put a sticker on it with the right spelling.

Re: LP standard 'limited colours' edition

yeah that spelling is a bit of a discrepancy; construction/spec wise it's very similar to my other standard. the serial number indicates it was built in 1990 though, so i think you guys may be referring to a different run of guitars. cheers for the help anyway!
