LP Tone sweep and replacement pups

I've been experimenting with some pups in the bridge of my Vintage Mahogany LP. The BB Pro bridge was just way too trebly for what I wanted, although the neck pup sounds pretty nice IMO.

First I threw in a JB I had lying around. JB is pretty awesome in a Mahogany Guitar, but the Tone knob just seemed to blanket the tone, even when I wired it up 50's style.

Then I tried an Air Zone and that is pretty sweet in there too, but I find I'm still not getting as much usable range with the tone knob that the BB Pro has. I would really love to have some woman tone to use with the bridge pup with the AZ or the JB.

Is it just because these modern pickups can't provide those tones like the BB Pros or do I need different pots/caps with these pups?

Re: LP Tone sweep and replacement pups

I like .022 mf caps and 500k pots in all my guitars. Production Les Pauls have 300k volume pots and mylar .022 mf caps. I usually replace my Gibson guts with 500k CRS pots and .022mf orange drops.

It's definately worth a try. All my guitars sound better after they get fresh guts.
