Some of you may remember I was agonising over this guitar...

Well, it looks like I missed out.

About a month ago, apparently, which goes to show how much I must have really wanted it.

So... who else has read/seen Needful Things?

This was the review left on the seller's page: It's a nice guitar if it actually worked properly. Acoustically, it works fine, but when I plug in, there's no sound. It cuts in and out but doesn't stay on. The guitar doesn't work and now I have to find some one who knows how to fix it and pay what ever price he wants. It's very hard to believe that you weren't aware of all this and you should have told me. I realize that everyone else would have done the same thing as you, but that doesn't make it right. It's still a low act.

Since the seller had it down as pickup only, either the buyer was in a rush, or even more unfortunately, paid to have it posted/couriered/carrier-pigeoned.

The moral of the story is thank f*** it didn't happen to me.

it seems a simple wiring issue from here
not the end of the world

but annoying , no doubt

I bought a bullet strat once for $50 that had a similar issue
it was listed as "the volume works like a tone control not a volume"

bad ground on the volume
touch of a hot iron , good as new

Yeah, I don't think it would've been an unfixable issue. Worst case scenario, the pickups were dead. Good opportunity for an upgrade. Best case scenario, just some solder joints to touch up.

Was that a LP100? I used to have a LP Special II. The darned thing would not stay in tune, but sounded pretty good the couple of seconds that it held tune. The stock POS pickups were actually pretty decent. Kinda like a dirtier Ceramic JB or a Distortion Lite.

A while back when he wanted $399, I asked if he was willing to go lower and he said it's a perfectly working instrument that cost almost twice that new and the price was "fair".

I should have guessed something was up when he took the price down. At $299, it's a little too pricey to gut and chuck something awesome into it. But for another $100 less, it might have been worth it.
