Luthier's advice needed...

I'd set up my friend's Jackson a ways back, and he called me today and said that something was wrong. I told him to bring it over, and he explained that after changing his strings the action on the high strings had risen a lot and the intonation was off.

The moment I picked it up I knew something was wrong as the high E felt like it was a mile off the frets. Upon closer examination I noticed the culprit: the trem post has risen out of the body about 1/8", anchor and all.:saeek:

My first temptation was to hammer the damn thing back in, but this is something I've never seen before. So... is this domething a DIYer can fix (and if so, how?), or will this necessitate taking the guitar in to the local shop?

That happens from time to time. If it has risen out, it usually can be tapped in easily. Use a plastic hammer and be gentile. You may be able to just pull it out, if you can, put a dab of glue on it and tap it back in gentily.

Hit it as hard as you can...then raise the action on the treble side! (jk)
