what the hell are these luthite guitars all about???? I hear it's plastic???? Ibanez seems to be selling them....Does anybody know anything about this????

Re: Luthite guitars?????

Haven't seen those, but plastic guitars were hot for awhile in the late 70's and early 80's. From what I've seen on this forum, they were heavy and had a dark tone. Sometimes you see them in the old videos on VH1 Classics.

Re: Luthite guitars?????

I think the production JS Chrome Boys are luthite, as the wood didn't hold up very well during the chroming process. The Ibanez Ergodyne basses are made of luthite as well. There's also a S-style Ibanez not available in the US (I believe the model is MDR or something similar, also has stock "by EMG" pickups in it) that's made of luthite.

Re: Luthite guitars?????

I've tried the Ergodyne's for a while but ughhh ... Didn't enjoy the tone and Hot Damn ...

Heavy as a fricking rock ... easily outweighed 2 Les Pauls (granted this was a bass)

Re: Luthite guitars?????

eh, if Danelectro sells guitars with masonite bodies, I don't see what the problem is. it's just a guitar company playing with some new ideas (granted both companies have been doing this for a while now)

BC rich made a few a while back and it was like slinging an AMP around your shoulder... about 15 pounds or so.
