Mag Mic (active pickups) question

Just a quick question as I am a greenhorn to anything not strictly acoustic. I installed the Mag Mic on my acoustic and chose the 9 volt battery option. Does the battery drain when the pickup is not in use, or does it only drain when a 1/4 inch plug is in the socket? Thank you for any help!

it should only drain when that cable is plugged in

Almost all active pickups (these are ones that use a battery) will empty a battery quickly if it stays plugged in, so you get used to unplugging every time. Keep a spare battery in the case, too. They never go dead at a convenient time.
