Magnet Hybrids In One Pickup.A5+A8

Hey Guys,

Have any one tried making a magnet hybrid by cutting a normal sized humbucker magnets like A5 and A8 into 2 pieces and sticking them together and putting it in a pickup?

You will have the properities of both in one pickup , something like you will have the tight full sound of A8 with the sweet mid range and highs of A5.

Anyone done that before?

I don't think you can.

But even if you could, I don't think the outcome will be any good, due to the loss of the magnet's properties due to the tempering.

HTH,

I already told you, won't work in a humbucker. Dudes say it works great in a P90 though.

At the very least you're going to run into difficulty trying to break your magnet in two. Alnico is demagnetized by heat (if you're trying to use some kinda saw/grinder to cut it) and by strong jolts (like trying to hit it really hard and make it crack). You might end up with two magnet pieces, but they're not going to be very magnetic any more.

alnico wont hold a charge if its dimentions are too small between the poles

Re: Magnet Hybrids In One Pickup.A5+A8

You're better off building some kind of Alnico rod based humbucker like the stag mag IMHO if you want mag combinations. Or maybe a Phat Cat like pickup with 2 different bar magnet combo.

I'm pretty sure that for the pickup to work with a bar magnet, it must have it's polarity uninterrupted across it's length from end to end.

"Sweet mid range of...A5"?!?!?

If by "sweet" you mean scooped. But, no, you can't do what you want. Maybe if you could cut them with a heatless laser. Or if you could buy them 1/2 length and charged.
