Hey Lester! You should get an edgier, more aggressive sound as well. On the old forum someone used to have on. The signal will hit the front end of your amp a little harder.

LUKE i really love the customs tone but it is not as hot as i would like
tonally i like it more than the 81 :saeek: :saeek: :saeek: :laugh2:
BUT i need more heat like the DD has so i figured i would put the LARGER ceramic in the custom to get more heat

You will get some more heat from it, and a bit more aggression like I said. However if you feel up to the challenge you could make a hybrid like mine since you've got a DD lying around not being used.

BachtoRock says the smaller mag sounds better in the hybrid though. He said he liked the A5 magnet best. Half JB, half C5. I plan on trying it in the not too distant future.

With the dd's magnet you will have more distortion but more compression , you'll loose the nice clarity of the custom ( 6 khz of resonance peak ) and the bass will probably be a bit muddy as the DD is like the JB as regard EQ : little bass .

really????
i thought the larger magnet would JUST increase the output and not change the tone of the customs wind at all?

According to many (and I believe them, but have no concrete proof), ceramics don't have tone. Thus, swapping a ceramic for a samarium cobalt mag, for example, would have no change in tone, since SC's have no tone either (again, no proof, but I believe it). Thus, a bigger ceramic wouldn't change the tone, since it's a toneless magnet. All it would do is add output. But I think frankencat is right, you'll need bigger spacers.

Or just turn the spacers on their sides, I've done it that way before.

I agree, after posting this i did a search on google and the ceramic itself DOES NOT create any specific tone, so you and the other guy are right
the custom will just have more juice and maybe a tighter bass?
I wanna give it a go :burnout:
