magnet swap in a Dimarzio Super 3

Anyone try a magnet swap in a Dimarzio Super 3? Pickup came stock on my Jackson PC1 and the low end is just way too much for my taste. Any suggestions on a magnet type that would reduce some of the low end and mids and give me a little more balanced sound?

A5 should help, but Ceramic mags are already pretty bright, I think you might just not like the pickup...

Never tried a Super 3, but Super Distortions have a LOT of bass and mids to them, as do a lot of dimarzios...
Are you running 500k pots? Anything less probably won't sound very good...

Specs (wood) on Jackson PC1:
Mahogany body w/ quilt maple top
Bolt-on Eastern rock maple neck W/ flame maple fretboard
Floyd Rose bridge

Playing thru an ENGL Fireball into a Mesa/Boogie 2X12 recitifier cabinet.
Hope this little bit of info helps.

Yup 500K pots came standard.

The Super 3 has lots of bass and mids and not much highs.

I think this might call for a pickup change.

Re: magnet swap in a Dimarzio Super 3

This is a muddy pickup to begin with. The giant ceramic magnet is already giving you as much top end as it can. The main competition is the obscene amount of DC resistance over such a small coil. (pickup nerds you can infer from that what you will) The coil wind is very murky. Less magnetism, either from Alnico or a smaller Ceramic could help, but all conventional wisdom says the big ceramic is helping to get the crispest highs out of the coils. I have a Super 3 in an Ibanez RG because for that guitar, it's exactly what I wanted. But my recommendation to anyone is if you think the Super 3 is too dark, don't bother with any mods.

Any suggestions on a replacement pickup?
I mostly listen to Dokken (george Lynch), Savatage (criss Oliva), not really looking to emulate their tone, but want a sound pickup wise that's not too dark or too bright, down the middle of the road without a ton of mids (my amp can take care of that).
Actives are not an option due to the sustainer system.
